“Shame,” Chris said.

Moon sighed. “Chris.”

“What? He’s annoying,” Chris defended.

“She likes me,” Mayhem said.

Chris gave him a flat look. “Don’t make this weird.”

“Too late,” he said. Chris stepped into the clinic. She had changed out of the blood-streaked shirt from earlier, but she still wore her kutte. Her hair had loosened slightly around her face, and she carried the kind of tension Mayhem recognized immediately. She was a leader trying not to show she was worried. Mayhem knew that look because he wore it often enough.

“How’s the lockdown?” Moon asked.

“Good,” Chris said.

“Everyone accounted for?” Moon asked.

“Yeah,” Chris said, “and before you ask, I’ve doubled patrol around the perimeter and checked on everything myself.”

Moon frowned. “Tempest told you not to ride.”

Chris’s mouth tightened. “She told me not to leave.”

“That means the same thing,” Moon insisted.

“Not technically.” Mayhem chuckled, and Chris glanced at him. “You stay out of this.”

“Not a chance,” Mayhem said.

Moon crossed her arms. “Chris, please tell me that you aren’t going against Tempest’s orders.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” Chris grumbled.

“Good,” Moon said.

“I’m sending other people out to do the dirty work,” Chris said.

Moon stared at her, and Chris stared back. Mayhem looked between them. “This feels familiar.” Both women ignored him.

Chris finally exhaled. “I’m VP, Moon. Tempest can tell me not to ride tonight, fine. But I’m not sitting around doing nothing while something is circling our club.”

Moon’s wolf scent changed, and Mayhem could smell her worry. “You’re not doing nothing,” Moon insisted.

“Feels like it,” Chris mumbled. Mayhem understood that too. Chris glanced toward the window at the red moon reflected faintly in the glass. “You really saw me in your vision?”

Moon went still, and Mayhem stopped smiling. “Yes.”

Chris looked at her. “Tell me exactly what you saw.”

“I already did,” Moon said.

“Tell me again,” Chris ordered. Moon hesitated, and Mayhem knew why. She was trying to protect Chris. Leaders hated that almost as much as they hated being lied to.

“I saw snow,” Moon said quietly. “A road running through the mountains, and your bike.”

Chris nodded. “You said you saw blood too. Was it mine?”

“I don’t know,” Moon admitted.
