“There's music,” Chris said.
Chrome stared at her. “What kind of music?”
“Christmas music,” she said, sounding completely disgusted by the idea of Christmas music.
Mayhem groaned. “Please tell me we're not fighting an evil Christmas pack.” Moon elbowed him. “What? You were all thinking it.”
Chris almost smiled, but Chrome didn't. “What song is playing?”
She looked at him. “What?”
“In the dream. What song is playing?” he asked again.
Chris thought. She'd heard it every night. It was faint and coming from somewhere she couldn't find. “Carol of the Bells.” Chrome went pale—actually pale. Chris had seen him bleeding; she saw him fight, saw him shift with bullets flying around him, but she had never seen fear on his face until now. “Chrome.”
He turned toward Howler. “We need to leave.”
Howler frowned. “Where are we going?”
“Silverfang clubhouse,” Chrome said.
“Why?” Howler asked.
“I need to check something,” Chrome said.
Chris stepped in front of him. “No, I’m going with you.”
Chrome looked down. “Move.”
“Not happening,” she said.
“Christmas,” he warned.
“Don't Christmas me,” she growled.
“This doesn't concern Dark Chaos,” he insisted.
“Moon saw me there,” she reminded.
“It doesn't matter,” he said.
“My dreams say otherwise,” she said.
Chrome's jaw flexed. “You aren't going.”
Chris laughed, actually laughed, but Chrome didn't, and that made her stop. “You don't give me orders.”
“I'm giving you one now,” Chrome challenged. The room went silent.
Tempest muttered, “Bad move.” Howler rubbed a hand over his face.
Mayhem whispered, “He's going to die.”
Moon whispered back, “Probably.”
Chris stepped close enough that her chest nearly touched Chrome's. “You're Silverfang's Enforcer.”
“Yes,” he said, not backing down.
