Mayhem coughed into his fist, and Moon muttered something that sounded suspiciously like, “Here we go.”
Chris pointed at Chrome. “Focus.”
“I am,” he said.
“Then talk,” she shouted.
Chrome's expression became serious again. “The symbol belongs to an old wolf pack.”
“How old?” Chris asked.
“Old enough,” he said.
Chris stared. “Do you enjoy being difficult?”
“Yes,” Chrome said.
“Chrome,” Howler warned.
The Enforcer sighed. “The Crowned Wolves.”
Tempest frowned. “Never heard of them.”
“You weren't supposed to,” Howler said.
Chris looked at Howler. “You know?”
Howler shook his head. “Not much.”
“But you know something,” Chris challenged.
“Chrome's past is his to tell,” Howler insisted. Chris looked back at him, and Chrome's face had become unreadable. Interesting. She'd known the man for more than a year—not well, but she knew him enough. Chrome was loud when he wanted to be, sarcastic, dangerous, and fiercely protective. He'd stood beside Silverfang through the Capitol Wolves' war. He'd fought at Black Hollow. He'd nearly gotten himself killed protecting Chris during the attack on the Dark Chaos clubhouse. And he flirted with her because apparently being threatened with bodily harm was his favorite hobby. But she knew almost nothing about where he'd come from. Apparently, that wasn't an accident.
“The Crowned Wolves,” Chris repeated.
Chrome nodded. “Pack in the mountains,” he said.
“Which mountains?”
“The Appalachian Mountains, down in the western part of Maryland.
Her stomach dropped, and Moon seemed to notice. “Chris?”
She rubbed her arms. “The road that I’ve dreamt about—”
Tempest frowned. “What about it?”
“I know where it goes,” Chris breathed. Everyone went quiet. Chris hated when rooms did that. She looked at Moon. “I've been seeing more, too.”
Moon's eyes narrowed. “How much more?”
“Since Black Hollow, I’ve been having more dreams,” Chris admitted.
“You told me the dreams started again two weeks ago,” Tempest said.
“They did; at least these dreams started two weeks ago.” Chris sighed. “And I’ve been having them every night.”
Chrome moved closer. She felt him before she saw him. “What happens in your dreams?”
