When Camilla went to stand up, Lisa gripped her wrist. “You won’t let Raiden come inside, will you, Cami?”

“Absolutely not.”

“Are you going to tell him how bad I’ve been living?”

Cami’s eyes softened as she looked down at Lisa. “No sweetie, that’s just between us girls.”

“Thank you.”

Raiden was less than happy that he couldn’t take one goddamn thing into the house when he got back to Lisa’s place.

“You need to dial it back,” Cami said softly between the seventh and eighth load she dragged inside.

“I have dialed it back,” he retorted.

“Then dial it back further, because right now your level of agitation could be measured on a Richter scale,” Cami said as she put her hand on his chest.

Raiden chuckled.

“I brought some sandwiches. I thought the three of us could eat tonight.” He tilted his chin toward the bags on the patio table.

“It’ll just be the two of us.”

“I gathered that.”

“Let me just get the last of these bags into the house.”

Raiden started walking the perimeter. He wanted to make sure everything was closed and locked up tight. He figured that Cami probably had Lisa settled back in the master bedroom. He glanced down at the lock on the guest bedroom window and stopped short. Lisa was sleeping in the bed. He could see that the bed had been made; it wasn’t just a jumbled heap of sheets and blankets. She actually looked like someone had tucked her in. Her long dark hair was freshly washed and was fanned out over the white pillowcases.

Cami had done good.

Please Lord, let Lisa not have any nightmares.

The phone in his back pocket vibrated and he grabbed it, hoping it was Harry. He smiled when he saw it was.

“You almost here?” he asked.

“Well, since you told me that I had to be, I figured I didn’t have a choice,” Harry Chapman said wryly.

Raiden laughed into his phone.

“Took you long enough.”

“Man, you called me this morning. I actually have duties, I can’t just take off whenever the hell I want. Plus, my wife likes it when I discuss things with her, not just take off. I find it helps keep our marriage a good one.”

Raiden laughed again.

“So you want me to play babysitter, do I have that right?”

“Basically. Just should be for a day or two. But if you could not use that term, I’d be much obliged.”

“I have been hearing about your team all pairing up. So you now have a woman that needs to be watched after, is that the deal?”

“This is Nic Hale’s woman. Him and the rest of Night Storm are overseas, I took leave to lend a hand on a situation here in Tempe. Camilla Ross, Nic’s woman, is here to help. I need you to look after her while I stay here with Lisa.”

“So is Lisa yours?” Harry asked.
