“Says who?” A.J. looked up at Kane with a sparkle in her eye. “I think I would have remembered enlisting in the military.”

Kane plucked the glass of scotch out of her hand and pulled her into his arms. “You’ve enlisted in my particular branch of the armed services, and in my branch, it says you can’t stay in your trailer overnight when some bastard is running around sabotaging equipment and damn near killing people.”

“Tell me more about your army.”

“Navy, woman. I’m in the Navy.” His lips hovered over hers. She could taste the scotch and an undefinable essence that had to be Kane.

“Navy,” she breathed. “I want in.” She wound her arms around the back of his head and pulled him down. Their lips met.

Perfection.

For one moment she was in command of the kiss, arching her body into his and running her tongue along his bottom lip, then everything changed. His arm tightened around her waist and his other hand speared into her hair and pulled. A.J. relished the slight hurt as he angled her head so that he could coax her lips open.

She parted her lips and he plundered. A.J.’s head spun, dark turned to light, the light that she saw in her mind burst like fireworks as his tongue stroked against hers. He was all-consuming. Deeper, she needed his taste, he wrenched her closer so that her breasts ground against his chest. Her nipples were tight, and she rubbed them against him, praying he would take the hint.

He didn’t.

She bit his tongue, and his laughter rumbled into her mouth. She pulled away from him.

“Touch me,” she demanded.

“Baby, we’d burn down this trailer if we did more than kiss.”

She would have been pissed as hell, but she heard the slightest tremor in his voice and knew that he was as caught up in this moment as she was.

Good.

“I’m taking you to your hotel tonight. I’m not kissing you goodnight when we get there. I’m checking in with my team. I’m coming back tomorrow. We’re going to work together on this bullshit. Then I’m taking you out tomorrow night.”

“Are you asking me out on a date?”

“Hell no, I’m telling you out on a date.”

“Works for me,” she smirked.

“Now hide your treasure underneath your clean clothes, and let’s go.”
