And Saskia did indeed attend with her father.

My heart drops.

I pinch the screen, zooming in. She stands beside another young girl. Instantly, I know what her father was trying to achieve here. This girl must be Fleur, her sister. One is yin, the other yang.

Saskia embodies femininity and darkness. Her makeup is bold, the deep red gown hugging her curves, cleavage on display.

Red-hot anger threatens to consume me. Two years ago, my Honeysuckle would have been twenty, not even old enough to consume alcohol. These girls shouldn’t have been at the event. Surrounded by power-hungry men, attending an event where appearance matters, I can only imagine what Vesper was using his daughters for.

I delete the page, running a hand through my hair.

Saskia Quinn? Over my dead fucking body.

She cut ties with her father. She had money to spend, designer dresses; she could have had everything at the press of a button…

Everything but a father’s love.

The dancing, the need to feel liberated; chasing freedom through songs. She still feels trapped.

Rage fills my body. I focus on channeling it into one spot, tucking it away for now. I’ll use the anger when the time is right. I’m not quite sure what to do with this information yet…

But I must make Gabriel aware.

I find him in my phone, calling him up.

“I’m about to go into a Pozharsky board meeting. What is it?”

“Saskia is Vesper Brouwer’s daughter.”

Silence.

“Gabriel?”

“Fuck,” he finally says. “Are you sure?”

“Her face was recognized by someone.”

“From the club?”

“Yeah, when I dragged her off stage.”

“You mean when you fucked up?”

“Call it what you want,” I grumble. “Your comments don’t fix anything.”

“Has Vesper spoken out?”

“He was asked just now by a journalist on the three o’clock news.”

“And?”

“He denied the accusations.”

“Because he has something to hide.”

“Vesper used to exploit his daughters, dress them up like Barbies.”

“To get himself into the right rooms…”
