“Drinks, gentlemen,” I say smoothly, setting the tray down.

“Thank you, Angel.” Carson smiles.

“And who is this young lady?” the Senator asks.

“This is one of my new girls, Angel,” Carson replies. “Beautiful, isn’t she?”

The Senator reaches for my hand, which I let happen. He raises it to his mouth and kisses the top of my hand. “Pleasure to meet you, Angel.”

I want to snap every single one of his fingers.

Instead, I blink away the fantasy and smile. “Pleasure is mine.”

Carson’s phone rings, and he stands. “Will you excuse me for a moment? I need to take this.”

Senator Wilson waves Carson off with his hand.

“Angel?” Carson asks. “Stay and keep the Senator company?”

“Of course,” I reply. I’m a featherlight, obedient, little doll after all.

The Senator’s eyes haven’t left me since I walked into the room. There’s something about the way he looks at me that makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The door closes softly, leaving the Senator and I alone. He pats his hand on the lounge, beckoning me to sit.

“Come sit next to me, Angel.”

Smiling sweetly, I sit next to him.

“Do you recognize me?”

“Yes.”

“And?”

“Well.” I bite my lower lip and lean in. “I’m wondering what a Senator is doing in a place like this?”

His eyes run down my body, lingering on my chest. He adjusts himself, the horny bastard. “Business.”

“Yeah?” I place my hand on his thigh. “What kind of business?”

“Unofficial.”

“Sounds mysterious.”

“Mmhmm.”

“Tell me more?” I look up at him, doe-eyed.

His hand cups my chin, tilts my face. For a brief second, I think he’s going to kiss me, but he doesn’t. He holds my face and studies me like he’s inspecting an object. Which, I guess I kind of am as well. I stare back at him, hard. In the art of seduction, it’s the eye contact that matters.

“How about that,” he murmurs. “Your eyes …”

He blinks and releases my face, fanning one arm behind me on the lounge, while the other reaches for his drink. He seems spooked. He takes a sip as I contemplate my next question. I need to keep him talking, but can’t overplay my hand.

“What about them?”

“They remind me of someone.”

Before I can press him further, the door clicks open and Carson returns.
