Her face lit up. “Hell yes! I’m going to kick your butt in Street Fighter again.”
I couldn’t help the grin from spreading across my face. I loved my gamer girl so much. She was my ultimate dream girl, and she was all mine.

LOGAN

ONE YEAR LATER

“Why did you want me to come look at this house with you again?” Lily asked from the passenger seat of my car.
“I value your opinion,” I lied.
I gritted my teeth so I didn’t let it be known how nervous I was about what I had planned.
I signed a new multi-year contract with the Bulldogs this season, and I finally felt in good financial standing to find my own place. Renting from Mac had been a blessing, but I wanted a bigger place. A better school district for the kids. Both of them.
Lily had been going with me to look at houses, but she didn’t know I’d already bought the one she loved. It was around the corner from Mac and Tali’s and a short drive to the practice facility.
She didn’t know any of this because I wanted it to be a surprise. Especially when she saw what I had been working on in the finished basement.
When we pulled up into the driveway, she gave me a confused look, noticing Mari’s car was already there. There was a big SOLD sign slapped across the For Sale sign in the yard.
She turned to me with that cute little furrow in her brow. “Logan, what’s going on?”
“I have to show you something,” I said.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and turned the car off. I got out of it, and Lily reluctantly followed me. She had an unsure look on her face. I walked over to her and grabbed her hand in mine.
She pinned me with her ‘mom look.’ “Logan.”
“Hmm?”
“Tell me the truth.”
I played dumb. “About what?”
She gestured to the house in front of us, pointing at the SOLD sign on the lawn. “Did you buy this?”
I grinned. “Maybe.”
“Maybe? What’s going on?”
I rubbed the pad of my thumb over her hand. “Patience, princess. I’m getting to that.”
She gave me a suspicious look but didn’t press me. I walked us up to the front door and opened it. Mari and the kids were already here waiting for us.
The house was newly built with a modern, open concept. It was a four-bedroom, which was perfect for each kid to have their own room and a guest room. There was also an office on the ground floor that would be perfect for Lily to work from home. She mentioned she only liked going into the tattoo shop because her work-from-home setup at her mom’s wasn’t ideal. There wasn’t room at my condo either, so working from her laptop on the couch wasn’t that comfortable. The office was the perfect setup for her to have the working life she wanted.
“Wow, it looks great already,” she said as we walked into the living room.
Mari helped with the furniture delivery last week, but I didn’t have everything in yet. The most important stuff was in the finished basement. Not a man cave, but something so much better.
“Come on, I want to show you something.” I guided her through the house and toward the door to the basement. I opened it, and we walked down the carpeted stairs.
