Logan sat up. “Okay, explain everything to me.”
“Huh?”
He put my hand on his heart. “Tell me what we need to do to make sure he doesn’t take Rosie away from us.”
I don’t think I could love this man more.
I sighed. “Okay, it’s a lot.”
“Don’t care. Tell me everything.”
So I did, and it surprised me he didn’t run for the hills and instead helped calm my nerves like the kind-hearted soul I fell in love with.
Chapter Thirty-Three
LOGAN
Lily’s ex was a fucking douche. I was a hockey player, so that was saying something. He fought us at every turn, refusing to agree to the shared agreement or come to a solution during mediation. We had been stuck waiting months until we got a court date to go in front of the judge.
The past couple of months had been a train wreck, but I refused to let the added stress get to me. I respected Lily for wanting her daughter to have a relationship with her father, but I wished he’d take a long walk off a short pier. Or that I could shove him into the boards. He pissed me off that much, and I never resorted to violence.
“You can’t sleep either,” Lily whispered in the dark of my bedroom.
“Sorry, princess, nervous about tomorrow,” I admitted.
I hadn’t been sure if I could attend the custody hearing with her. It may have taken us months to get a date in court, but it was still smack in the middle of my hockey season. The hockey gods must have been on my side as the date landed on an off day for me. I wanted to be there for her every step of the way.
She put a hand on my chest. “I’m nervous too.”
“Don’t get mad at me.”
She turned toward me, her smile tight with stress.
“I hate your ex.”
A light giggle bubbled out of her mouth. “Oh, Logan. I know that. He knows it too.”
I raked a hand across my jaw. “He sucks.”
“You don’t have to tell me that.”
“I hate how he just wants custody to lord it over you. He could give two shits if he spends time with Rosie.”
That stuck in my craw. This douche-nugget was only fighting us to get back at Lily. He didn’t care if she had sole custody. Not to mention, he switched weeks a couple of times without warning. I made sure Lily screenshotted all the text messages, like her lawyer told her to. Even though she wasn’t pushing for sole custody, having the backup that Seth wasn’t agreeing to their previous parenting plan was good to have.
Before she could respond, a noise emitted from the baby monitor. Lily checked it with a sigh.
“I’ll get her,” I offered.
I was out of bed and padding across the room before she could argue. I walked into Liam’s bedroom and found little miss standing up in her crib, grabbing onto the bars. While Lily still lived at her mom’s, she slept here a lot when I was home. I had no qualms about it since I loved waking up beside my love.
“What you doing up, huh?” I asked Rosie.
“Da-da!” she squealed at me.
I tried not to grin. There may have been a reason Seth didn’t like me. Rosie kept calling me ‘Da-da’ no matter how much we corrected her. Little miss was stubborn.
“Logan,” I told her. “You’ll see your daddy in a couple of days.”
