“His.”
She gave me a smirk, and I wanted to smack it off of her pretty face. She must have noticed the torment across my face because the smile disappeared in an instant, and she rushed over to my side. She took the napkin in front of me and dabbed at my eyes as she hugged me close.
“Oh, Avs, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”
I took the napkin out of her hand and dabbed at my eyes. “Why doesn’t he love me?”
My sister squeezed me in her arms and stroked my hair. “He does! He just doesn’t know how to tell you. Why else would he do all these things for you?”
“I want to be loved, Gem,” I cried.
“You are,” she said and squeezed me for extra measure. “I love you. You’re my favorite sister.”
I glared at her and pinched her side. “Your only sister, you jerk. I’m sorry, it’s pregnancy hormones.”
She squeezed me tighter. “I know, but trust me, Nolan would move mountains for you if he could. He just doesn’t know how to tell you that. You might need to make the first move.”
No way. That was too scary. What if I told him how much I loved him, and he told me he didn’t feel the same way?
Instead of voicing my concerns to my sister, I plastered on a fake smile. She went back to her side of the table while I wiped my tears away. I changed the subject, and she exhaustedly told me all the brewery gossip.
“Hey, I know!” Gemma exclaimed as she pulled into Nolan’s driveway after we left the restaurant.
Nolan’s car was here, but the house was dark, meaning he was at the brewery. One reason the MacGregor brothers bought the brewery in the first place was that it was within walking distance of their house. It was one thing I loved about living here. Everything was within walking distance.
“You know what?” I asked.
“You should go up to the cabin.”
“In the Poconos? For what?” I asked with a frown.
“Your honeymoon!” she said with an exaggerated sigh.
I gave my sister an amused look. That had come out of nowhere, but it wasn’t a bad idea. Getting away from everything and relaxing would be nice. I could lie in bed and read, and maybe I could finally tell Nolan how I felt.
“It would be fun! You guys could get away from everything and have some quiet nights in front of the fire. Nolan could keep you warm at night.” She gently nudged my arm with her elbow.
“I’ll think about it,” I muttered.
It wasn’t the worst idea. It wouldn’t be expensive to take a couple of vacation days, but Nolan didn’t like to take time off from the brewery. I didn’t know why I was entertaining this idea.
I hugged my sister goodbye tightly. “I’m sorry I ruined dinner by crying into my falafel.”
She laughed into my hair. “I love you, okay? Talk to Nolan. You need a break from everything. Going up to the cabin would be good for both of you.”
I had no intention of talking to him about it, but he brought it up when he slid into bed later that night.
I stirred next to him. “Hmm?”
“Sorry,” he whispered as he curled around me and placed a hand on my belly.
I closed my eyes to go back to sleep, but he stopped me.
“Avs?”
“Yeah?”
“We should go on a honeymoon.”
