For the first time in months, the pressure Graves had lodged inside my head simply… disappeared.
There was only Sammy.
The man who’d been sleeping beneath me all this time, waiting for me to wake up and finally notice him.
And looking at him now, I wondered how I hadn’t seen it sooner. Sammy had become the only person who could quiet the noise in my head, make all my doubts shut the hell up, and send my pulse racing with his touch.
Chapter 11: Sammy Hayes
When Maeve dropped her towel, my brain completely short-circuited.
Maeve had kissed me.
Maeve Archer had kissed me.
On purpose!
No threats, no coercion, no head injury, at least that I was aware of. She had looked me directly in the eyes and made the conscious decision to put her mouth on mine.
Good Lord.
This was shaping up to be the best day of my life.
And now she was naked, standing between my knees while I stared up at her as if I'd taken one too many hits to the head.
Real impressive, Hayes.
I reached my hand out, brushing her hip just to make sure this was real, and it was. Maeve really stood in front of me…
Naked.
Beautiful.
All woman.
All alpha.
My attention snagged first on her breasts, small but perfect, before slipping lower over the hard planes of her stomach and the lean, toned muscle carved across her powerful frame. Maeve’s entire body radiated strength, as if she was built to run, fight, and win.
And to shatter whatever higher brain function I had remaining.
Then I spotted a tiny tattoo tucked into the hollow of her hip. The symbol was a little horse, caught mid-run, its mane streaming behind it like nothing in the world could catch it.
The tiny mare looked untamed and unstoppable, just like her.
I’d always liked horses.
Now, I fucking loved them.
“Your jaw’s on the floor, Boy Scout,” she teased as she sauntered toward me, taking her sweet time.
“Sorry, I just…” I swallowed, but apparently the rest of the sentence had abandoned me along with every other useful thought in my head.
Her brow arched as she waited for my brain to finish buffering.
“I didn’t think I had a chance in hell with you,” I admitted finally.
“You don’t,” Maeve said with a smirk.
