“Bullied is a strong word because if I didn’t want him to be in it then he wouldn’t have been in it.”
“Ohhh, so you did want him there?” Denim wiggled her eyebrows while grinning mischievously.
“Bitch, y’all hoes need to be stopped.”
They laughed harder and this time I joined in.
“I’m glad you finally admitted you wanted to involve that man, though.”
“Oh Denim, please,” I giggled. “We all know how I feel about Armias, but I’m also not about to go out like a sad ass bitch. I let him be in some of my pictures because he felt strongly about it. And after hearing his explanation I agreed that it would be a good memory for our baby to look back on when she’s older. God forbid something happens to either one of us, she’ll be able to have those pictures and know that we were excited for her.” It was funny how I was reiterating everything Armias said when I brushed it off to his face. I was merely disagreeing with him because I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of me agreeing with him.
“But make no mistakes…those pictures will never get posted on my Instagram.”
“You said the key thing, best friend,” Dream said. “Your Instagram. I bet Armias posts that shit.”
“I doubt it with all the hoes he has,” I snarled.
“Stop playing and take your nigga back,” Denim urged.
“If only it were that simple. Shit, if only he were mine to take back.”
“You really don’t see how you got that man’s heart in a chokehold, sis?”
“Nope,” I popped my lips. “Because that man would have never given me the time of day again had it not been for me turning up pregnant. He was overly done with me.”
“Yea, that nigga cut off game was strong,” Dream laughed. “But that has nothing to do with how he feels about you, Lo. You fucked up and unfortunately, the nigga knew his worth and stopped fucking with you. It be like that sometimes.”
“Ugh, I hate a nigga with high self esteem,” Denim added.
I gave them both a crazy look. “Y’all bitches throwed off.”
“Tell us we wrong, though,” Dream smirked.
“This isn’t about what’s right and wrong. I know that I was in the wrong, and I apologized for lying. But lying was all I did. Kenny’s bitter ass made up a bunch of shit about me on the spot and I don’t think Armias will ever let it go. In his eyes if I lied once then I’m probably lying about everything else too, including how I felt about him.”
“Have you really tried to convince him otherwise?” Denim asked.
“Yea, I explained myself more than once.”
“Probably at a time when emotions were high, so he probably wasn’t thinking clearly or really hearing you. I think you should try again when y’all are both in a good mood. Maybe when the baby is about to be born. I bet he takes it easy on you then,” Denim said with a grin like she was proud of that horrible idea.
“Bitch, you then lost the plot,” Dream said.
“No, seriously,” I laughed.
“Erase that last part and I think she’s on to something, Lo.”
“I’m not about to keep explaining myself. It’s too close to begging and it feels desperate. I’m far from it.”
“Look, I know we live in a world where everyone wants to front like they don’t feel anything and that everyone is disposable, but there’s nothing wrong with following your heart and fighting for something you messed up,” Dream advised and for a second I didn’t recognize her.
“Bitch, who are you and what have you done with my best friend?” I asked while smiling because I was happy for her. After months of dating Kai, he finally asked her to be his girlfriend in August. He took her to dinner and the question was right there on a big bouquet of custom roses. At the time my love life was in shambles and I was weighing my options with my pregnancy, but it wasn’t hard for me to be happy for my girl. She didn’t do relationships and never had, so she wasn’t pinning after Kai and begging him for a commitment. I think she loved doing relationship things without the heaviness of a title. Kai on the other hand was getting tired of their extended talking stage and it had become a constant issue between them. He finally put his foot down and said it was all or nothing. Evidently my girl didn’t want to lose him because she compromised. It was a great decision because I’d never seen her happier.
“Girl, this bitch is in love,” Denim rolled her eyes.
“You must be in love then, too, because you’re giving her the same advice.”
“Oh no, baby, love don’t live here,” she scoffed. While Kai and Dream had become boyfriend and girlfriend, Lucky and Denim weren’t even speaking anymore. According to her, he was too inconsistent to have on her roster. I was never the type of chick who entertained bukoo niggas at once, so I didn’t know how that worked. I’d think that it wouldn’t matter if a man was consistent or not if y’all were only fooling around and you had other options on standby. If anything, I figured Lucky and Denim made for good fuck buddies because they were on the same type of time. Much like her big sister, Denim didn’t do relationships either but it was because she worked and went to nursing school full time. She always said she didn’t have time for anything too heavy.
