The world around her exploded. Sight. Sounds.
Her body was no longer hers.
She floated in a sea of tiny explosions.
Melted, then was built up again.
Everything was silent. Still.
Then he shifted above her, and she focused on his sexy blue eyes as he slid deeply into her in one quick motion, rocking her world and recentering it until he was the core of her universe.
Everything that had ever happened to her, everything she’d ever dreamed of, was right here.
She reached up, wrapped her arms around him, and held onto him as he sealed her fate.
This was who she was now. His.
This is who she wanted to be forever. His.
“Nate,” she sighed as her body once more lost the battle and exploded into a million pieces.
His.
She felt him saying something but didn’t shift so that her ear and her implant were free enough to hear his words.
Her body wasn’t responding. She was still floating in the afterglow of the best sex she—or anyone else, she guessed—had ever had.
“I don’t want to move,” she mumbled. “Give me a minute, or twenty years.” She felt him chuckle.
When she finally did turn her head slightly, she heard him say.
“Are you okay?” His finger was slowly making shapes on her shoulder, relaxing her further.
“Better than okay.” She sighed. “You?”
“Oh, I could fly to the moon if I had to.” He shifted slightly until he could glance down at her. A small crease appeared between his eyes. “You’re in pain.”
She was. She was trying hard to ignore it and shrugged. “I’ll live.”
He shifted again until they were both sitting up. She watched his eyes run over every inch of her before returning to her face.
“Do you need anything?”
She shook her head slightly. “Just you.” She rested her head against his chest. “I’ll be okay.”
“How bad is it? Really?” he asked as his arms wrapped around her again.
She thought about it for a moment. “I have about ten percent of my hearing still,” she admitted. “If this is permanent,” she added glancing up at him, “I’ll lose this simple hold on who I am and that scares me.”
He turned to face her fully, brushing a kiss to her temple. “It’s not the end. Not even close. You’re still you. With or without hearing.”
She looked up at him, her eyes searching his face, and then nodded once. “I’ll admit, I don’t want to stop hearing your sexy voice.”
His smile was quick. “Then I suppose I’ll have to keep you up all night talking to you until you change your mind.”
She laughed. “Thank you. For today. For this.” Her fingers brushed lightly over his chest. “For being there.”
“Anytime,” he whispered, leaning down to kiss her softly. “Now get comfy.” He flipped on the television in their room and changed it to the movie they’d been watching in the other room. “I think this movie has the worst fake accent I’ve ever heard, and I need someone to laugh at it with me.”
