“My real name is Corina. When I was five, I started going by Cora. Because I hated it.”
“I like it,” both Missy and Max said at the same time.
“Maybe if I still went by it, Cora Jenkins wouldn’t have it out for me so much,” Cora joked.
“She has it out for you because you’re a million times better dancer than she could ever be,” Max said. “Even my mother admitted that.”
“Oh?” Cora asked.
“She came to practice to try and convince me to fire you. Then she saw how you danced and decided not to.” Max instantly wondered if he’d said too much.
Both Missy and Cora were looking at him strangely.
“Mom really did that?” Missy asked.
He shrugged. “I wouldn’t have fired Cora. She’s the best one up there.”
Cora’s hand slipped under the table into his.
“It’s true,” he told her.
Just then their main dishes was served and the talk turned to how wonderful the food was and what their plans for the following day were.
So far, they were planning to lounge at the pool and then lounge at the beach.
The day after, they had scheduled to go into Silver Cove and shop. Missy wanted to show them the empty building she was hoping to open her bakery in.
By the time they had finished with dinner, Max was pretty sure he’d never eaten as much food as he just had.
Then the waiter offered them their choice of desserts.
“If you order the chocolate mousse, I’ll get to have a nibble of it,” Cora nudged him. He nodded to the waiter.
“I’ll have the strawberry cheesecake,” Missy said.
Just then, Lilith came into the dining room with Sarah. They headed straight for their table.
“How is everything?” Sarah asked.
“So good,” Missy answered quickly. “Cora tells me that your mother owns the shop in town. Serenity’s Attic?”
Sarah’s smile doubled. “She does. Are you thinking of heading inland to shop?”
“The day after tomorrow. Actually, I was here not long ago. I’m sort of scoping out a building to open my bakery in,” Missy said.
“Oh, how wonderful. My mother and her new husband, Rory, just purchased the building next door to Serenity’s Attic. They’re leasing or selling it. They haven’t decided yet.”
“That’s the one I was looking at. It would be perfect.” Missy scooted over and motioned for Sarah to sit.
“Normally, I don’t, but I’m dying to get off my feet tonight,” Sarah said, sitting down.
“I’ll go check on your desserts,” Lilith said and quickly disappeared.
For the next few minutes, Sarah and Missy talked shop. After it was arranged for them to meet Sarah’s mother, Crystal, and her husband, Rory, the day after next, Sarah quickly excused herself just as Lilith and a very tall dark-haired man brought out their desserts.
Cora jumped up and hugged the man, who was introduced as Adam Carriveau, Lilith’s husband.
His sister took one look at the desserts and started chatting with Adam about the food.
