Would Arken be affronted and retaliate? Or would he fixate on her? Neither would end well for her. It was not worth the risk, and she certainly wasn’t after a thank you.
He cannot find out.
She fixed Nathaniel with a determined look. “Don’t tell him that I helped him. I was never here.”
Nathaniel’s cold eyes stared back, emotionless, giving nothing away. Finally, he nodded. “Go.”
Susie threw one last look at the unconscious headmaster and turned to leave. But then she hesitated.
“I think…something’s made him lose a lot of blood,” she told Nathaniel shakily. “He’ll be fine with you, won’t he?”
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. “I thought you weren’t here.”
Right.
Arken began to stir.
Susie froze, then jerked into motion. She raced down the hallway, trying to keep her footsteps light even as she sacrificed quietness for speed.
She heard the sound of the male vampires talking. Her heart leapt to hear Arken’s deeper timbre, his words eloquent even in his weakened state.
As she reached her room, she stole a glance behind her and caught the briefest glimpse of Nathaniel helping Arken to stand. She leapt inside her room and shut the door quietly, then pressed her ear against the door, listening.
She couldn’t hear a thing, but she stayed in that position as she waited for her panting to subside. She felt so torn; she had the strongest impulse to go back out into the corridor and make sure that Arken was all right. It didn’t make sense.
Susie chewed her lip in deliberation. She did not trust herself to go back to the stairwell, not when her heart was still beating too fast.
The memory of Arken’s gentle touch as he rocked in and out of her caused heat to wash through her in confusing waves. It made it hard to think, to make sense of the mess of emotions in her mind.
He’d taken advantage of her…and she didn’t know what to do.
He’d entered her, been on top of her, and moved inside her…and she was still thinking about it. She’d been helpless in all of it.
She could feel his cum between her legs, even though she’d washed thoroughly.
She could scent it. The other wolves would be able to as well.
He’d been different to other vampires, but it changed nothing. He’d violated her and taken what he needed, and even though he’d given her pleasure, her vulnerability only left her feeling empty.
Her body had betrayed her. She ached down in her lower abdomen, but that was nothing compared to the ache in her chest. The real traitor was her sympathy—her ‘bleeding heart’ as Harry would say—because she wanted to go to him.
Susie was paralysed with indecision, one hand on the door handle as she debated what to do. In the end, she released the handle and flopped down on her bed. She couldn’t bring herself to face him again, not for any reason. The sooner Headmaster Arken forgot she existed, the better.
She would simply find another way to protect Molly and the other first-years.
Chapter 12
Cravings
Arken
The sharp toe of a polished shoe nudged Arken awake. He squinted blearily up at the tall, blond-haired vampire gazing down at him.
“Nathaniel,” Arken greeted, licking his dry lips as he offered the vampire a languid smile. “I thought you left.”
“I thought you said you’d stop drinking.”
“I said no such thing.”
