“Then do it for me. This is your best chance at doing it again, so what are you waiting for?”
Is he coming around to the idea? Am I convincing him? I think I am.
“I’ll do it for you,” he replies.
My heart leaps in my chest.
Yes.
“You will?”
Cove nods. His mind is made up. “I will.”
He’s doing this for me.
I can’t believe it. This is major. He, the guy who’s said he’ll never surf again, is going to get back on the surfboard and get back into the water. I will actually be able to watch my man do what he does best.
And it’s because I’ve asked him. He’s doing this for me.
My heart dissolves. I take his hands in mine and feel his warm body.
He’s doing this for me.
* * *
The water drifts upto my toes on the sand as I wait on the shoreline, my finger dangling nervously in my mouth. I’m biting my fingernail watching Cove and his perfect body head out into the ocean with the surfboard he’d practiced on as a teenager under his arm. His board shorts are riding low in the way that only his board shorts seem to do, revealing just enough of his ass to make my body involuntarily shudder.
Cove’s going to surf for me. Because I’ve asked him to.
He’s doing this for me.
He’s fast in the water. To get over a wave he leaps on the board and starts to paddle. This was a move he’s practiced hundreds of times, thousands of times before. This was what he does best. And, of course, I know there’s a little bit of him showing off to me, but that’s more than fine. I like to watch him show off to me. I like his cocky attitude.
I like to watch him when he’s sexy and passionate. When he’s like this.
He calmly waits in the water for a good wave. When one does come, Cove spins his board around and swims with it, catching the wave smoothly.
This is it. This is when he’ll stand. My heart’s in my throat. My nerves are on edge.
He’s going to surf again.
And then he’s standing on the board.
Yes.
He’s getting up.
He’s doing it. He’s really doing it.
And then, as soon as he gets up, he falls.
No.
He falls off the surfboard.
I watch on in shock as his body tumbles into the water like he’s a lifeless doll.
And then he’s gone under the surface of the ocean. The wave’s swallowed him up.
