Massimo tosses the keys back to Adriano as we approach the SUV. He and Caleb are both leaning against a nearby pillar, keeping their gazes firmly locked on Massimo and I.

“We had a meeting come up.” Massimo murmurs, and that seems to be enough for Adriano, who nods and gets into the driver’s seat of the SUV, “Get Ren and have him bring both Mila’s car and mine back to the house. We are going to the Bianchi manor.”

I quirk my brow at Massimo, “The Bianchi manor?”

“That’s my father’s house, which I suppose is now mine.” Massimo shrugs while gently guiding me to the backseat of the SUV. He opens the door and allows me to get in first before following behind me, “Whoever shot you will learn that they failed, and they will look for you first at your house. My condo is safer, but it doesn’t have the resources the manor has to keep you safe.”

My initial reaction is to argue that I am fine, but his words settle like a rock in my stomach. Someone tried to kill me today. I almost died trying to get gelato.

Who the hell would have…

“I’m getting close,” I tell Massimo, and he nods.

“Whoever is hurting the sex workers and who hurt you knows you are onto them. They are going to start getting sloppier, but they won’t stop. The creep has gotten away with this for far too long, and he’s addicted to the thrill of it.” Massimo explains, fastening my seatbelt when I don’t attempt to do it myself.

“He was there?” My voice is detached as I start to replay the last seven hours in my mind.

I try to remember the gelato shop. I was so distracted by the flavours, so calm with a false sense of security, while the person who had been wreaking havoc on this city was only feet away from me. I try to think of the windows and the street beyond them, but there was nothing significant, nothing that struck me as worrisome. Just regular pedestrians passing by, laughing and chatting amongst each other, while some walked with their heads down and headphones on.

“Ren and Raphael stayed to survey the area. Whoever it was blended in with the crowd. He wasn’t walking with the gun out and didn’t take time to aim at you, otherwise my men would have noticed him long before you were shot.” He informs me.

“We need to visit with Jazzy. We need to warn her and the others to take the night off. To take the next week off. He’s going to be erratic. We have to…” I trail off when Massimo takes my hand in his, distracting me as he kisses the back of it.

“You don’t have to do anything, but rest. You were just shot today.” Massimo’s voice drips with venom as he recounts my injury, “I will send my men.”

Knowing Massimo will not budge on allowing me to go wandering the streets this evening, I relent with an exhausted nod. A few minutes pass in silence, Massimo slowly guiding my body to rest against his as I watch pedestrians and buildings blur into one.

“I don’t think you have ever been sexier than when you dominated Alverez.” Massimo purrs lowly in my ear. His pants begin to tent, and I nudge him with my good hand.

“You are insane,” I respond, even though in my mind I slowly melt to his words.

Nobody has ever found me sexy. Nobody has ever praised me for speaking up and making sure I’m heard. Yet, Massimo does. He sees me. He doesn’t see what James had left in his wake. He sees the woman I have picked back up and forced myself to become.

Massimo doesn’t try to weaken me. He lifts me up and makes me feel the confidence I have earned. I trust Massimo. Despite how psychotic and cold he can be, I know he will never hurt me.

Oh, God… I like a mob boss.

That’s putting it lightly.

Fuck off.

I peer up at Massimo, and he kisses my forehead, his eyes glinting devilishly in the lights of Sin City. With my good hand, I tug on his neck so he will lean forward. I place my lips to his ear. My heart hammers so hard in my chest, I know he can feel it.

“I need you, Mas…” I whisper, hoping he will understand. The words make the butterflies low in my core come to life. He stiffens next to me, his pupils blowing wide.

I shift nervously. This is the part he should say something… I have seen the movies and read the books, that’s what all the girls say when they want it. Did I word it right?

Massimo swallows thickly, “Angel… I’m going to need you to clarify what you mean.”

His cock is rock hard in his pants, and when my gaze meets the tent, it is almost like he can feel my eyes because it throbs for me. Two fingers gently tilt my head up so I’m looking back at him.

“I’m ready. I want to feel close to you. I need…” I trail off when Massimo’s lips crash down onto mine, the sound of a window rising fills the car, and that’s when I realize he has put up the partition between Adriano and us.

When Massimo pulls away, I whisper, “You.”

I’m still not a hundred percent sure what I need from him, just that I do.

Heat pools between my thighs as Massimo devours my lips, kissing and coaxing my pleasure to the surface as his hand slowly caresses my inner thigh. His thumb rubs slow, teasing circles at the top, close to where the ache is starting to build, but not close enough to relieve me. I whine into the kiss, and he chuckles before hushing me.
