I shouldn’t have let myself go. I knew I shouldn’t. I hurt her.
“Where does it hurt? I will have my doctor come right away.” I’m already on the other side of the bed, turning my phone back on, cursing as it takes its sweet time.
When I see Mila limping as she tries to walk around the bed, I drop my phone to rush for her, “Mila, sweetheart, you should rest, I–”
Mila giggles, but nothing about this situation feels like a laughing matter. It must be written on my face, because she places her soft hands on either side, “I’m okay, Mas.”
“No, you aren’t. You’re limping, and you need a pharmacy. Where does it hurt?”
Her cheeks turn the most adorable shade of pink. She should know by now she never has to feel embarrassed around me, but I fucking love it anyway.
“I’m not on a contraceptive, Mas… We haven’t… You have been…” Her eyes are wide as she tries to form the words, and I remain in amused silence, enjoying how flustered she gets while talking about my cum, “What if I’m pregnant?!”
My eyes trail hungrily down her body, stopping at her flat core and silently dreaming of it swelling for me.
“Mas…” Her voice is weary as I step toward her, my tongue juts out to lick my lips. She takes one step back in response, her basal instincts recognizing she is prey to my predatory nature.
“You think you could be?” Another step forward, and she takes another back until she is trapped between the bed and me.
Mila’s face is shocked, but her pupils dilate until the blues of her eyes are almost imperceptible. She shakes her head, her eyes darting for my lips as her bare thighs try to squeeze shut. She winces at the feeling of the soreness between them, but it doesn’t stop her from pulling my lips to hers.
She gasps as I lay her back down on the bed, peppering her body with kisses. Kissing the bruise on her shoulder, lightly kissing over the bullet wound on her shoulder, before kissing my way down to her belly, “No, don’t go to the pharmacy.”
I know she has a choice in the matter. In fact, the choice is all hers, but if she wants to hear my vote, then I want her to mother my children. Everyone. Dozens, if possible.
That thought should scare me. It always has with other women. But Mila isn’t any woman. She’s my woman. The person who was made for me, as I am made for her.
“And if I get pregnant?” She murmurs.
I caress her side, running my fingers along the side of her breast and down to her stomach, “Then I’ll take care of you and our children. You never have to work another day in your life if you don’t want to. In fact, I would prefer it if you stayed home where I wouldn’t have to worry every minute you are out of my sight.”
She looks at me incredulously. The same look she has given me every time she calls me insane. I can practically hear her lilting voice telling me how crazy I’m acting. It makes me grin in a way that I’m sure makes me look vaguely like the Joker.
“You don’t have to make any decisions right now. But that’s where I stand. If you do decide to work, then you will take Adriano and Caleb with you, wherever you choose to work.” I peck her lips before helping her sit up. I add, “Ren should be calling soon with an update. Let’s have a shower. Ren had Caleb escort Anita to your house to pick up some clothes for you. They dropped it off last night.”
Yeah… Maybe I should go back to sugarcoating the mafia life for her. She looks like she’s ready to both melt down and maybe panic a little bit at the thought of Anita gathering her things for her.
Chapter 47
Mila
Massimo’s office is not exactly what I expected. I don’t know what I was thinking a mafia man’s office would look like, but it definitely wasn’t this bright, open room with a glass desk and a bookshelf lining the wall. It’s minimalistic and not as disorganized as I had pictured.
Massimo presses the accept button on his phone, and Ren’s voice comes through the line, “We were able to get the results in from a few samples we found on Jazzy. Most of the DNA and abiotic factors on her were what we would expect. Various parts of her DNA and tissues, as well as fecal matter and bacteria, are to be expected, given where we found her and her life in the tunnels. Though overall, she was much cleaner than I would have expected, given what I have found in those tunnels in the past.”
We both listen intently as Ren recites a bunch of technical terms and negative results, but finally, he gets to the DNA found on her that didn’t belong to her, and my breath catches. Every nerve in my body is on high alert, and my heart hammers hard against my ribs.
“Given the nature of most of the crimes, I figured the best place to start would be swabbing under her nails and vagina. We got back a positive result. The DNA matched a man by the name of Gerardo Vitelli.” Ren notes.
Gerardo. My police chief.
His DNA was found on her body?
Why would he go after Jazzy?
There is no way he’s the killer.
He can’t be.
