Caleb shivered, and not from the cold. Isaac’s low voice, right next to his ear, was making his skin prickle.
“She was pushing me to choose a guy, and I thought of you of course,” Caleb admitted. Isaac practically lit up. “But I knew your girlfriend would never let you.”
“You should have asked me anyway,” Isaac said with a strange intensity.
“Yeah?” Caleb asked.
“Yeah,” Isaac said, leaning in.
Instead, she’d discovered she liked sex with a girl.
“I turned her gay,” Caleb said. The realization hit him hard.
Isaac laughed. “That’s not how that works.”
“You sure?”
There was a fond look on Isaac’s face. A familiar one. It said that Caleb was being a bit dense but Isaac still liked him anyway.
Isaac whispered, suddenly serious, “I need to tell you something. Something important.”
Caleb didn’t know what happened. One second he was turning his head to look Isaac in the eye, worried that Isaac was going to comment on the dual boners they both had.
His girlfriend breaking up with him had not deflated it in the slightest. If anything, being comforted by Isaac had only made it grow.
The next second, there was a pressure at the back of his head, like a hand pushing him forward.
Their lips touched.
They didn’t move. Frozen. Staring at each other wide-eyed.
Caleb’s first thought was how had he never noticed that Isaac’s brown eyes had a faint golden ring around them? His next was that Isaac’s lips were chapped. Like no girl he’d ever kissed.
Would Isaac’s tongue taste different? What about the feeling of coiled strength as he - whoa! Caleb jumped back, cold air filling the space between them. The hell was he thinking!?
“It was the ghost!” Caleb blurted.
“Huh?” Isaac said, blinking rapidly. “Ghost?”
“Didn’t you feel-” Caleb laughed awkwardly. Of course he hadn’t. Ghosts weren’t real. “Sorry bro, didn’t mean to do something so gay and ruin the moment.”
Isaac sighed. Like Caleb had disappointed him.
Ghosts weren’t real. Caleb knew it. Isaac knew it. Ryan had pranked him.
So what was up with the pressure he’d felt on the back of his head?
Chapter 4
Awkward.
Caleb needed space. He needed to get away. Laughing it off didn’t stop his heart from racing. It didn’t stop the heat pooling low in his gut. It didn’t stop his breaths from coming short and fast.
He’d just been dumped and now this?
Everything their girlfriends had said about them couldn’t be right. It just couldn’t be.
It was all the ghost’s fault. This haunted house was cursed. There was no other explanation. He’d never do that on his own. Never. And neither would Isaac. They weren’t like that! Why did everyone always think that they were?
