It cuts back to the news reporter.

“The Evelyn he is speaking of is none other than Evelyn Kingston. After further investigation, we found that her half-brother is the president of the Lotus MC, while the man she is dating is also a member. No comment from the police, as this is an ongoing investigation, but you know when we have one, you will be the first to know. Ken, back to you.”

My throat burns as I see my own image on the screen. I cannot even believe that this is what my life has become. From a well-known and respected doctor to a pariah in my community. Who will want to be seen by me after that?

“We can’t keep playing the defense. I want a solid plan to attack by tomorrow. I am done with us being ten steps behind. I refuse to allow him to continue to tear down my family and those I love.” Reaper sounds much like his name implies.

He made a command, and no one will disobey him.

Hades pulls me into his side. “Are you okay, Princess?”

I shake my head, eyes filled with tears.

“I already sent it to Atticus. This will be part of your mediation tomorrow. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but this just nailed Pembrooke to the wall.”

I nod. “All because I wouldn’t date him.”

Hades kisses the top of my head. “Men who are the worst have the biggest egos. This is his way of trying to remain in control. Tomorrow, you will take some of that control back.”

I look up at him, smiling, “I wish you could come with me. I know why Atticus said not to have you, but still.”

“I know. Mav and Rebel will be there. Rebel is on the grounds crew. He got the contract thanks to his work on Dansworth’s home gardens. Mav made up a reason to have to be in the courthouse. He will be watching.”

I lean my head against his chest. “You’ll be here waiting for me?”

“You know it.”

He leans down, kissing me, silencing all the what-ifs that run through my mind.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Hades

She has been pacing all morning. She cannot sit still. I know this is rough on her, but it is killing me to see such a confident woman look so unsure.

“All right, Atticus is here. I guess I’m going to go.” She plays with the bottom of her blazer as she looks at the ground.

I tilt her chin up so I can see her eyes.

She is nervous as hell. I hate that for her.

“You are going to do great. Atticus is going to be by your side the whole time. Don’t forget that Mav and Rebel will be close. You will be safe. Nothing will happen.”

She gives me a grateful smile. “You always know how to calm me.”

I lean down, pressing my lips to hers. “I also know how to rile you up so you go in there and show them fuckers you mean business. They don’t know what they were doing when they messed with my princess.”

She rolls her eyes but kisses me again. “Okay, I’m going.”

I watch her leave, glancing out the window as she climbs into Atticus’ car. I don’t like letting her go without me, but I understand why Atticus told me to stay away.

After that news coverage, it makes it even more important.

Today needs to be about how the hospital mishandled everything. It is to get her job back for her. Not to be overshadowed by a biker showering up for her. Even if this biker is head over heels in love with the girl.

Walking away from the window after they are gone, I go to find Trigger. I smirk when I hear audio from Atticus’ car.

“Does he know you have that?” I ask.
