“Any size is fine.”
He nods and types away on the keyboard.
“I have a king suite.”
Handing my credit card to him, I say, “That’s fine. Thank you.”
“Room 304 is on the third floor, third door on the right. Check out, is at eleven tomorrow.”
I’m not exactly friendly, it’s more than I’m capable of right now so I don’t respond. Instead I head straight to the elevator.
A group of people come up behind me, so I grab my sunglasses from my purse and put them on, hoping to conceal my identity. A few years ago, an actress started getting unforgiving press as she aged. After having multiple plastic surgeries the gossip got worse. Unfortunately, sometimes even a skilled surgeon can’t turn back the clock. Lately, I feel like her. The only difference is she disappeared from the limelight. There are rumors she changed her name, and others say she died. Maybe that’s what I need to do.
Just disappear.
I step into the room and close the door behind me. Curling up on the bed, I can finally fall apart and fall apart, I do. I cry for him, and for myself. I cry for the girl that wants so desperately to be loved that she fell for all the lies.
Falling in love with a drug addict is dangerous because they destroy everything in their path. It wasn’t even the drugs though. He stomped all over my heart for no reason at all. Jett should have been honest and said he wasn’t into me. Or couldn’t commit to me. That I would’ve understood, but this?. I’ll never get an explanation because he won’t get the time of day. He doesn’t deserve it. My last memory of him will be etched into my brain for the rest of my life. And that will be enough for me to keep my distance.

Chapter Forty-Nine
MIA
I’ve been lying here crying for so long I don’t have a clue what time it is when my phone starts ringing. I grab it and look at the name Kins flashing across the screen.
I answer it, and she starts screaming into the earpiece. Clicking the speakerphone button, I put it on the bed beside me so the piercing sound isn’t in my eardrums.
“Where the hell are you! Jett is freaking out, I’m freaking out, where the hell are you?”
I roll my eyes at the mention of Jett, as if he even cares.
“I’m fine, Kins. I’m safe and that’s all that matters.”
She’s silent for a beat until she starts yelling again.
“Where are you? Mia, I swear to God!”
“I left Kins. Jett fucked Samantha, and I left. It’s as simple as that.”
I can hear his anger radiate through the line.
“Let me talk to her,” Jett growls at McKinley but she doesn’t give him the phone.
“It’s not what you think, Mia.”
I sit up on the bed as my sadness turns to blinding rage.
“I don’t want to hear it, McKinley. Not a word about him or I’ll hang up. That’s how it works now. Jett and I are done. Tell him not to contact me. I’m leaving and going somewhere he’ll never find me. I don’t want him to. That part of my life is officially over.”
“Angel,” I hear Jett cry in the background and wonder if I’m on speakerphone now too, the sound is a roar of pain and it hurts even though it shouldn’t.
“Tell me where you are. I’ll come to you, alone.” She says and I shake my head as if she can see.
“No. I have to go.”
I disconnect the call, and my heart shatters into a million pieces from the sound of Jett’s pain and the cold hard truth that I can’t trust my best friend anymore. She’s married to his best friend and her loyalties will be divided. The truth is, it’s not even right to ask her to choose. So I won’t. I’ll just slip away from everything and everyone. I’ll dye my hair and go by a new name. It’ll be like the acting role I never got.
