“First, I want to make sure I am,” I admit, taking the bag from him. The corner of my lips lifts slightly when I see he’s also added some chocolate and candy. “Thank you, Angel.”

He shifts on his feet, and then runs his thumb across the scar on his face. He clears his throat, and then asks, “Do you want me to stay?”

Feeling emotional, I throw myself into his arms. He catches me, but then freezes. Out of all the men here, Angel and Ghost seem the most devoid of emotion. I know Angel doesn’t really like to be touched either, so the fact he embraces me means a lot. “Yes, please. If you don’t mind.”

He softens and then nods. “Okay, I’ll wait here.”

Grinning up at him, I head to the bathroom and pee on one of the sticks, then leave it on the table while I wash my hands. I keep staring at it from the corner of my eye. I don’t know how Suit will handle it if I am pregnant. I don’t know how I will handle it. I was just thinking about a damn annulment, and now I might be carrying a piece of him with me forever. After a few minutes, I finally look down.

Two lines.

Fuck.

I’m pregnant.

From a one-night stand.

“Angel!” I call out.

He quickly steps into the bathroom, dark eyes on the test in my hand. “So are you carrying my best friend’s baby or what?”

I show him the test.

His brow furrows. “Elena, I don’t know what the fuck I’m looking for. Just tell me.”

“I’m pregnant.”

He freezes, an emotion I can’t place flickering in his eyes before it’s gone. “Is it congratulations or I’m sorry?”

“I don’t know,” I admit, my lip twitching. “Let’s go with congratulations. You can save the ‘I’m sorry’ for Suit.”

A muscle works in his jaw. “Go and tell him.”

“I’ll tell him after the dinner. I want to do another test first to make sure.”

He studies me for a moment, but then nods. “But tell him tonight, okay? He’s not going to be happy if I knew and didn’t tell him.”

“Tonight,” I vow, then give him another hug. “Do you hate it when I touch you?”

I don’t know why I feel safe with Angel. Maybe it’s because he’s Suit’s best friend, or because I can see the demons in his eyes.

He thinks it over before he replies. “It’s putting me out of my comfort zone.”

“Is that good or bad?”

He makes an amused sound but leaves it at that.

“Thank you for my chocolate and candy.”

“I figured pregnant women like sweets. And if not, sad women also like sweets.”

I grin widely. “Safe bet. Okay, I better get ready for this dinner.”

“I’ll be there, waiting down the road from your house.” He lets go of me and leaves my bedroom.

My unlikely hero.

I finish getting ready, sliding on tight jeans and a black blouse. I want my father to see how different I am now that I’m no longer under his thumb. I can wear whatever the hell I want and be whoever I want to be.
