I feel nauseous.
I know Suit would never hurt me, but he’ll never love me either.
Maybe I should move into the house when it’s ready, get a few dogs from Pyro, and live my own life away from him. Then he can fuck who he wants, and I won’t have to look at him and wish for more.
“If you’re going to lie, you should do a better job of it,” he murmurs, checking a text on his phone.
I sigh deeply. “My father wants me and Suit to meet him for dinner tomorrow night.”
He lifts his head, his dark eyes flickering. “Does Prez know?”
I shake my head. “I only just got the text. Which, by the way, is the first time they’ve contacted me since they gave me away like a piece of property.”
“Is it so bad here?” he asks, and my gaze travels down the scar on his face.
“The club girls keep telling me how you and Suit share women, and how he’s with them and will come back to them, and how I’m not good enough for him,” I say.
A muscle works in his jaw. “Does Suit know that?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. He spends more time in the pole room with them than with me.”
“Wait, Elena. You need to talk to Suit.”
I look him in the eye. “I know I’m not as thin as the rest of the women here. Do you think that’s why he doesn’t want to be with me?” My lower lip wavers a little.
Angel sucks in a sharp breath. “Elena, you are beautiful. Trust me, half the brothers here would take you to bed if they had the chance.”
“Just not my husband. I’m going to Pyro’s,” I say, cutting him off. “I need some fresh air.”
And some puppy therapy. A few cuddles with the adorable American Bullies might lift my spirits.
When I get to Pyro’s, he’s sitting out in front, enjoying the view of the forest. Two of his dogs are at his feet. I have no idea if he even likes me visiting him, but he doesn’t say anything.
“Need any help today?” I ask him.
“I just cleaned out the puppy pen, but feel free to play with them,” he replies, studying me. “There’s beer and soda in the fridge if you want a drink.”
“Thanks, Pyro.” I sigh, walking into his house and smiling down at the chunky puppies. “Hello there, I missed you guys.”
I pick one up and cuddle him against me. “I should totally get a dog when the house is ready.”
After giving them all a little love, I grab a soda and sit down on the porch next to Pyro.
“You like being out here alone, don’t you?”
He nods.
“I’m sorry to ruin your peace,” I grumble, and he smirks.
“I don’t mind it, Elena. You need a break from the clubhouse too.” He pauses, and then adds, “It’s even nicer without Suit here standing and watching me like a bodyguard.”
I laugh. “What does he think you’ll do?”
“Steal you away. He’s possessive of his wife. You can’t blame him.”
I roll my eyes. “I don’t know about all that.”
My phone beeps with a text.
