They all walk past me like I’m invisible, but I don’t miss the smug looks directed my way.

I mean, she’s not wrong, but it hurts that he’s been with them and know him like that.

Has he been sleeping with them this whole time? I wanted to ask him last night, but didn’t want to ruin our first night together. He didn’t make me any promises, and I know I shouldn’t have any expectations because of that.

But he is my husband.

What if we did make it work?

“There you are.” Blade smiles when his eyes find me. He’s wearing a black T-shirt under his leather cut, faded jeans, and scuffed leather boots. “I was wondering if you could help me with something. You mentioned that you balanced the books for your father… would you mind looking over ours?” He pauses, and then adds, “We’d be putting a lot of trust in you. And I don’t think I need to tell you what would happen if you betrayed us.”

“Of course,” I reply, happy to be given something to do. I put my glass down in the sink. I know how big this is, and maybe it’s a test to see whether they can trust me. But either way, I’m not going to mess this up. My loyalty is always to my husband first.

His smile widens, and he flashes me with straight white teeth. “Perfect. Come on, I’ll show you the setup I have in my room.”

I hesitate when I get to his bedroom door, feeling a little weird, but then he nods to the four screens he has in the corner of his room. It’s like a full office, with security cameras showing different parts of the clubhouse.

“Wow, no wonder you’re always in here.” I grin, sitting on the chair he pulls out for me.

“Yeah, I’m usually working,” he admits, pushing his glasses up on his nose. He pulls out a folder from his top drawer and hands it to me. “Can I get you something to eat or drink?”

“I’m okay,” I reply, opening the folder and getting lost in the numbers. Most of their businesses look legit, which surprises me. The only one that is illegal is the weapons deal with the Bratva.

When I find an inconsistency, I point it out. I can tell that he’s impressed. I’ve been underestimated my whole life.

“You’re full of surprises, little Bratva princess.” He grins wolfishly.

“I can see the name is getting around,” I murmur, and he laughs.

“You know what we are like with road names.”

I didn’t like it at first when Suit called me princess, but when Blade puts it like that. Also, hearing Suit moan out ‘princess’ last night was hot as hell. Will he want to sleep apart tonight? Or will I be screaming his name for a second night in a row?

I deflate when I remember the club girls’ words. Will he really be in the pole room tonight after what we shared last night? The thought of him with another woman makes me feel sick to my stomach.

“Everything okay?” Blade asks, raking his hand through his curly hair.

“Yeah,” I lie.

He puts a laptop in front of me and winks. “Well, then, let’s see what you can do.”

My brows arch as I check the security he wants me to hack into—another test.

I crack my knuckles and get to work.

“Done,” I call out half an hour later.

“Bullshit,” Blade whispers, standing behind me and checking the screen. We’re currently looking at footage of my home. I was right. This is a test. A big one. They want to know if they can trust me to see whose side I’m on. Blade studies me, but I don’t react. “We want to make sure we can trust them.”

“I get it,” I reply, leaning back in the chair. I feel nothing when I look at the childhood home I grew up in. “I mean, they did swap sisters at the church without telling you. I know I wasn’t the one you all were expecting.”

Blade sighs and rests his chin on the top of my head. “No, we weren’t expecting you. But sometimes the unexpected gifts are the best ones, don’t you think?”

“Well, doesn’t this look cozy…” comes a deep voice.

Blade and I turn to see Suit standing there, leaning against the doorframe, his slate-gray eyes narrowed to slits and a cruel smirk playing on his lips.

“You should see what your girl can do,” Blade says, nodding toward the screen. “No wonder he offered the other sister to you first. Elena is a lot more than a pretty face.”
