Chapter One

Nine Years Later

Silence—just what Morwenna needed.

Although she couldn’t get the image out of her head. All she wanted to do was drop off Casey’s present, or Bolt, as she now must refer to him. He did all his prospecting, and now he was a respectable member of the club. She couldn’t help but wonder how many people knew he was cheating. Were they laughing at her?

She glanced down at her ring, but the image before her got a little too blurry. She felt sick to her stomach and closed her eyes, even as her phone buzzed. Every now and then, the sounds of birds singing filled the air, and it was beautiful. This is why she came here, to think and be alone. It was the one place no one was ever able to find. Sure, it was near the lake, but this was filled with boulders and rocks, where the chance of death was a hundred percent guaranteed. This way, no stupid kids or teenagers would attempt any daredevil stunts. There was no safe place to land.

She sat on the boulder, her feet dangling in the water. She found this place many years ago, when she needed to think.

Nine years ago, after she had sex with her longtime friend and boyfriend, she thought she was pregnant. She had never said anything, but Casey had promised he wore a condom. Then he told her the condom had broken. She’d been freaking out thinking she was pregnant at sixteen. Casey offered to marry her, and even though their parents were nervous for them, they didn’t stop them. They had a proper church wedding. Her own father, who was a former soldier, asked if she wanted to run away. Every single time, she told everyone she loved Casey and wanted to get married.

She squeezed her eyes closed because her husband cheating on her just didn’t seem to ... it wasn’t something she could even grasp right now. Yet, she’d seen him with Star, one of the most notorious club women. She overheard Star bragging about all the men she had been with. She was also talking about getting a tattoo so she could celebrate being with nearly the full house.

Morwenna swiped at her cheeks, as more tears fell. She felt sick to her stomach.

There had been no children between her and Casey. Nine years ago, there had been a false positive on a pregnancy test. The doctor confirmed she wasn’t pregnant with a blood test, and she and Casey remained married.

For nine years, they had gone through so much. They finished high school together, and when she could have gone away to college, she didn’t. Casey asked her not to, he didn’t want to risk his place at the Evil Dwellers MC, where his father was president. So, she stayed in Dwellers Point, and Casey got to earn his patch, which took him four years. It was grueling task after grueling task. At times, she thought it was torture, but the Evil Dwellers MC had their own code. They needed men they could rely on. There was no room for weakness, only strength and brutality.

She was no fool about what went down at the club. Although she never saw them kill anyone, the rumors were rife, and she was aware that a couple of the members were still serving sentences.

Cops had been around her place while Casey was there. Life had been shit for a time, but he promised it would get better.

Instead of going to college, she worked as a receptionist at a garage owned by the club. She did that to help them out, because on the side, she had a successful food blog, which is what she’d been working on all the way through high school. She earned a good living from it, and although she didn’t do television appearances, or many interviews—as Casey’s wife, she had to be picky about what she did—more and more people came back for more. All of her recipes were tested at the club. They’d give their honest opinion. She’d perfect recipes, get more feedback, and when she was a hundred percent sure, she would then share that recipe with the rest of her audience. She loved it.

None of that mattered now.

She opened her eyes and reached for her cell phone to see so many people were calling her. Casey’s mom, Storm. Several of the guys, a couple of the women, even Maverick, Casey’s father, had tried to call her. There were a couple of missed calls from her own parents. Instead of listening to the noise, she pressed down on the power button, and as soon as it came up with a screen that asked her to sleep, shutdown, or restart, she pressed “shutdown.” The urge to launch the phone into the lake and watch it sink beneath the water was so strong. She was never wasteful, though. Phones cost money, and she was always looking for ways to save.

Even though Casey said they didn’t need the money, because everything was working at the club, that didn’t stop her from constantly trying to save. She was used to it, and her mother had taught her how to stretch a meal, which was why her food was so popular on her channel. She had shortcut ideas and cost-cutting ideas.

Running fingers through her hair, she took a deep breath and expelled it, opening her eyes, and still everything was blurry. Pressing the heels of her hands against her eyes, she growled, keeping her teeth clenched as the pain overwhelmed her.

She wanted to stop thinking. This was not helping as every time she closed her eyes or opened them, all she could see was Casey’s naked ass as he pumped into Star. The two looked so comfortable together. Morwenna knew she was a fucking idiot. She could tell by how comfortable they were that this was not a one-time thing. Casey had been fucking Star for a while now, and that pain was slicing right through her chest.

Going home was not an option. Staying at the lake was not an option either. She was alone and nothing was helping. She could not go home to her parents’ because her father had guns and military training. He never talked about his time serving, but Morwenna knew he did a lot of bad things. She was afraid he might go after Casey. She took a deep breath and exhaled. Nine years of marriage, where she thought they were strong, that he was loyal and didn’t cheat.

Morwenna pulled herself out of the water and got to her feet, holding her sandals between two fingers. She was not supposed to go to the clubhouse today. She’d sent Casey a message saying she had some shopping to do and a few errands to run, and that she’d be at the garage. However, she had remembered Casey’s leather cut with his Bolt patch was in the back of her car, from the date they had just last night. She knew how much he loved that leather cut and was constantly complaining about it being clean. He never wanted to part with it, so she figured she would stop by the clubhouse on her way to do errands and hand him the jacket. She thought perhaps they’d share a little kiss, and even take a chance at making a baby, because she so wanted to have a baby. They had been trying for three years.

So, she walked into the clubhouse, and saw shock on the guys’ and women’s faces when she entered. She smiled at them, and none of them smiled back. No one stopped her. She went up to Casey’s room and entered. The door hadn’t been locked.

Star and Casey were on his bed, and she was able to see his cock, without a condom, sliding right into a woman known for fucking multiple men.

She had to stop replaying this in her mind. Brushing some of the grass and mud from her lap, she walked back to her car and climbed into the driver’s side. She shoved the key into the ignition, turned over the car, and pressed down on the gas. She didn’t go into Dwellers Point.

Finding a small clinic just outside of town, she knew of several women that had come to this clinic when they didn’t want to be gossiped about. Casey had been fucking a woman without a condom. She had a feeling he’d been with Star more than just this morning.

Pulling down the mirror in front of the driver’s seat, she saw her eyes were puffy and red. There was no way to stop them from being that color right now. She felt a little sick. She had to do this, now or never.

Pushing her door open, she stepped out and slammed the door. This was a sexual health clinic, which is why she knew about it. This wasn’t just any doctor’s practice. This was for sexual health, and she walked inside and went up to the main desk. She hated this. This is what her husband had pushed her to do. He fucked without a condom, and seeing as they had been trying to make a baby, and he might have been with Star more times, she had to get herself checked.

“Hi, I’m Morwenna Richards, and I need to get checked as I just literally caught my husband cheating on me.”

Casey ran fingers through his hair as he looked at his father.
