Lynx held up a hand to stop me. “I don’t like it either.” He shrugged. “That’s why I thought you could make this a thing between you and your girl. Push him out of another part of your world.”
It must have been so hard for this man to watch his sister be in love with someone as fucked up as me. My shoulders caved. “I’m so sorry this is what your sister has to deal with. I tried so hard to stay away from her like that.”
His tan face lit up as he laughed. “You didn’t have a chance against her. You’ve been hers for as long as you’ve been here.”
Even though Justice and I didn’t act like a couple for all those months, maybe we already were one in many ways. “I guess you do see a lot.”
“It’s my job to.” He judged, “That’s why I was shocked with you fuckin’ Saph.”
“I thought you said bunnies were ours to fuck.”
“They are, but it don’t mean we all do.”
I pointed at him in question. “Including you?”
“Hell no. Elle’s pussy is the only one I need.”
Then he waited. He wanted answers. I looked everywhere but at him. “I, uh…” Giving up the façade, I finally blurted, “Art. The fucker.”
This was making complete sense to him. Lynx nodded while pushing off the table. “Oh, yes. That past finally came back and bit her in the ass, I see.” He grabbed another two bags. “So, you got some sorta beef with Art, and were pissed when ya found out they used to fuck?”
Blink. Blink. He spoke of his sister as if she was truly another biker in his club. “I, uh, was taken aback when I heard them having sex.”
His brows pinched. “Like, recently?”
I wanted out of this conversation because thinking of Justice with anyone but me was making my stomach twist up and temper flair again. “It ain’t my business.”
“Hey, I do my best to treat Justice equally, just like she has asked me to, but that’s my fucking sister. I watch her like a hawk. And, you’re wrong.”
“About what?” I said with a bit of aggravation.
“Art. That ended a long time ago.”
Shaking my head, I claimed, “I heard them.”
“You may have heard something, but it wasn’t sex. Trust me.” I opened my mouth to argue, but he cut me off. “Has she admitted to it?”
Quickly, my mind replayed those conversations. She never had. Only told me it wasn’t my business. I should’ve seen through that. “Ah, shit.”
“Yeah. As I said, you’ve been hers since ya got here. And, I think she’s been yours.”
A bit of silence hung between us before I finally said, “I’ll do right by her. I swear it.”
“I don’t doubt that for a second. That’s why you ain’t in the ground.”
I teased, “How comforting.” After he chuckled, I asked, “Lynx, why am I now learning of these secrets?”
“One: you’ve proven to be trustworthy as fuck. Two:” he gestured to the table behind him, “we’re moving that shit next week.”
“We?”
“You ready for a cut of the profits?”
I thought of Saph and the baby. “I’d really appreciate that.” Even though I would have someday liked to support Justice, too, she wasn’t like that. She made her own bank and was proud of it. Asking her to let me provide for her was like asking her to stop being a biker.
Never gonna happen.
So, I decided to be thankful for what I had with her, something so rare. And prayed I was worth it.
