He let her have her fun, let her drive the pace, he was happy enough to have her wet and hot around him. His hands were full of her breasts, teasing at the stiff peaks of her nipples, remembering the way he’d stared up at her as he emptied himself inside of her earlier. How good it had felt to fill her as she watched him for that split second. She’d looked up, away, to that man and the woman who’d been busy pleasuring the guy with her mouth. She’d come before Logan had a chance to get even a little bit soft. He’d wanted to continue to fuck her, but now was as good a time as any.

“Come for me, Keily. Show me how you do it.” He knew she loved the power he’d given her, knew it by the way she moved her hips, the way she nearly collapsed when his arms tightened around her.

She gave a soft hitch of a sound, and then he felt it, that first flutter of her desire. Her head went back, against his right shoulder, pushing her breasts further into his hands. She filled all of his senses, surrounded him with her touch, her smell, her sound as she came hard and long in his arms. For a moment, he felt as if he was one with Keily, one soul, one human, one form, as he lost the will to hold back and followed her into oblivion.

He pulled her face up to his, used his fingers at the joints of her jaw to open her mouth, and kissed her with ravenous hunger. Pleasure coursed through his brain, his body, as she moaned into his mouth and pulsed around him. He filled her with the flood of his release, without a second thought, with any thought, other than how good it felt to come inside of her.

Logan sucked in air through his nose as the kiss continued long after his balls had stopped pulsing and she’d slouched in his arms. The kiss wasn’t about sex anymore, it was about emotions he didn’t want to name, thoughts he didn’t want to think.

Keily let him have his moment, gave it back to him. If he knew her, and he did, she was probably having the same overwhelming rush of whatever the fuck this was as he was. She pulled back a little and Logan opened his eyes. He saw it there, that same panic, that same knowledge, the same ‘oh fuck’ that repeated over and over in his mind. But there was also something that might be happiness in her eyes. Was it in his as well?

She slipped from his arms and went back to the side of the bed she’d chosen. He faced her, wanting to watch her in the moonlight. He didn’t think, pushed away the thoughts that told him this was all a mistake, that he needed to take her home on the first plane back tomorrow. He forced his brain to be quiet and just enjoy this moment of peace with her.

He’d been alone for so long, it was nice to have her company, even when they weren’t having sex. Okay, so they didn’t have deep meaningful conversations about their pasts, but they did have talks about other subjects. She was knowledgeable in areas that surprised him, business, politics, comedy. Who’d have thought that she’d like comedies? He wasn’t sure why he’d assumed she’d hate them, but he had. They even talked about films, documentaries, art, and the future hopes he had for the company. Just not about a future together, or their pasts.

Logan could only guess she didn’t like to talk about Joe because the guy was a drunken dickhead. What else did she need to say about him? She never mentioned him, almost as if he’d never existed, unless Logan brought him up or to ask about the court case.

She didn’t mention her little sister anymore and he knew that was a sore spot for her. He brushed a tendril of hair back from her face and smiled at her. “Good night, Keily.”

“Good night, Logan. Wake me up if you have that in mind again.” She murmured with a sleepy smile.

She didn’t mention her parents anymore either. She’d almost become this self-contained box that spoke only about topics he wanted to talk about. But he wasn’t sure he liked that. He wanted to know more about her, wanted to know the things that worried her, that made her sad.

But…

Did he?

Would that be the safe option? To deepen their relationship?

He rolled back onto his back and closed his eyes. A cool ocean breeze blew in through the window, drying the slight sheen of sweat on his skin. Would he be able to blow her out of his life as easily as that breeze blew in the window if he knew all the things he wanted to know?

It was a quandary best left to another day, he decided. For now, he’d enjoy the time he had with her on the island and worry about tomorrow another day. He deserved the peace, for once in his life.

Keily

“This sucks. I wish we were back on that island.” Keily groused as she picked up her phone and thought about calling Rosa.

The other woman was at work and it wouldn’t be a good time to call. Especially with Logan so…grumpy lately. He wasn’t grumpy with her, but Rosa let her know that since they’d come back from their vacation, he’d been a bear to deal with at work.

Today wouldn’t have made things any better, either.

They’d been back from their vacation for a little over three weeks now and Logan had to go for another court appearance that morning. Keily hadn’t gone to the courthouse because Logan hadn’t wanted her to come and because she hadn’t been needed. They all knew Joe’s attorney would continue the matter as many times as the judge would allow, and they weren’t wrong. She’d had a text from Logan at lunchtime telling her just that one word and nothing more.

“Continued.”

She rolled her eyes and put the phone down.

She wondered, not for the first time, what had changed on that trip that left him so damned irritable all the time now. They’d had a good time, there’d been a lot of sex, a lot of laughs, and even some exploration of the islands. It had all been really good, she thought, a turning point in what could be and what might be.

The news from Rosa made her wonder, even if he was the same guy when he was with her. Maybe the problem was at work, and not something personal to Logan. Not that he’d talk to her about it, either way. He wasn’t the kind of guy that talked about feelings or emotions, or even the past. Every now and then he’d talk about the present, but normally, they didn’t have very long conversations about him personally. Logan had a way of turning the conversation around to her, even when she made a point of asking him something about himself.

He’d arrive soon, so she went into the bedroom, freshened up her makeup and hair, changed into a slouchy t-shirt dress, and put some lasagna she’d frozen into the oven. That was something else she did now, prepared food and froze it. Her days were so empty she didn’t have much else to do.

Which reminded her, she needed to find out about those scholarships. She’d decided to call some of the pageants too, find out exactly what prizes she’d won and lost. Back then she hadn’t really paid attention to prizes and things like that, she’d been focused on winning and little else. She’d found out when she was younger some details of what she’d lost, but now, she wondered if there’d been more. Wasn’t there a car at some point?

She’d just hit send on an email to one of the pageant organizers when Logan knocked and came in the door.
