“You mean Erik?”
“Yeah. I adore him. You should too. He’s so helpful and sweet. Way better than that Wyatt.”
“Granny, we’ve been through this...Erik is just my client.”
“You have the hots for him. I can tell.”
I stopped in my tracks and blushed. I suddenly felt like a teenager again. “Grandma!” I hissed, embarrassed. “Don’t say things like that!”
“Well, he has the hots for you too. He rescued you like you were Sleeping Beauty.”
“He brought me home from the hospital,” I said dryly. “That’s not rescuing. That’s just transporting.”
“And he made sure you were okay. He stayed by your side the whole night. Instead of running off and having sex with his secretary.”
“Wyatt didn’t run off with his secretary...Wait, why am I defending Wyatt?” I said out loud.
She shrugged. “A brief moment of insanity, I’m sure.”
“Speaking of insanity, when did you turn into such a romantic?”
She smiled. “I’ve always been a romantic. In fact, I have a date tomorrow.”
“With whom?” I was instantly curious and reached out to stop the grocery cart. “Come on, tell all. You can’t just drop news like that on me and then continue to shop like it’s no big deal. You haven’t had a date in what? 20? 30 years?”
She shot me a cold look. “Five. Five days.”
I stared at her. “Who are you and where have you taken my grandma?”
“Well, there are lots of bachelors in the old folks’ homes. Lots of hot men just waiting to set their eyes on a woman like me. You know the young didn’t invent sex. It’s not just for the youth!”
I covered my ears. “Stop. Stop. Stop. Lalalalalalalalalala,” I started to say over and over.
She placed a hand on her hip. “Just when I thought you were a mature adult, this happens.”
I uncovered my ears and said, “Okay, so where’d you meet your date?”
“Which one? The one I’m seeing tomorrow?”
My mind was officially blown. “Oh, jeez, Grandma, how many guys are you seeing?”
“Two or three...one just wants to be friends, but I know he’s just playing hard to get.”
I shook my head. My love life was nonexistent while Grandma’s love life apparently never had a dull moment.
“Anyway, the guy I’m seeing tomorrow was a guy I met at work.”
“You’re dating a coworker?”
“Well, technically he’s a client.”
“Client?” I laughed, “Granny, you’re a telemarketer. How did you meet your client? Hold on, Granny, did you pick someone up over the phone? Is that how you met him?”
She smiled. “We talked for hours. I totally forgot I was supposed to be selling him timeshares in Miami.”
I laughed. I couldn’t believe it.
“When I found out he was local, well, I just got so excited and we agreed to meet up.”
