“But I still don’t know what to do about the surrogate issue.”
Emmaline sighed. “Hon, the surrogate issue is really a non-issue. There’s no way you can be a surrogate for a man that you’re clearly in love with. You can’t carry the baby of the man you love, give up the baby to him and then just continue with your current arrangement where you both act like you don’t care for the other. That would just be stupid.”
I nodded. She was right. “I know, I know, everything you’re saying makes sense. I just don’t know how to tell him all of this.”
“Which part?”
“All of it.”
“You could just start by telling him the truth. Telling him that you love him. Telling him that you want more than just hot sex in an undefined relationship.”
“But what if he doesn’t want the same? What if he just wants to remain friends with benefits?”
“Then for your sake, it would be best to end it.”
I knew she was right but my heart hurt just thinking about it. “I have a lot to think about,” I said once I found my voice again.
“Yeah, I’m sorry for clearly not giving you the answer you wanted to hear.”
“I knew you would be the voice of reason.”
“I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“It seems like that’s the way this will all play out.”
“If he has any sense at all, he’ll tell you he feels the same way and then you guys will live happily ever after.”
“Life isn’t a fairy tale,” I said sadly.
“That doesn’t mean you can’t have a fairy tale ending. Tell him how you feel. He would be a fool not to love you back.”
“I thought Wyatt loved me,” I said softly.
“I think he did, but sometimes people fall out of love. That’s no excuse for cheating. But it is grounds for leaving a relationship. And you don’t know if Erik is like Wyatt. Wyatt was a prick, Erik is a man desperately trying to start a family. They shouldn’t even be put in the same category.”
We got off the phone shortly after that. I was in deep thought contemplating my conversation with Emmaline. She had been right about everything. There was only one thing left for me to do. I would just tell him. Tomorrow. I would tell him tomorrow how I felt.
