She looked at me briefly and then looked back at the road and shrugged. “If you say so. Speaking of babies...do you think Colin and Emmaline are going to try for another baby?”

I was glad that she changed the subject. “I don’t know. That would be great though...both of you pregnant at the same time.”

She smiled. “Yeah, I think so too.” She gave me a devilish look. “Even if they aren’t planning for one, maybe I can convince her.”

“Good luck,” I laughed.

We decided to go see a movie. It was a romantic comedy and of course, the lead actors eventually got their lives together and ended up with each other. If only life were that simple, I thought to myself. After the movie, Lacey dropped me off at my granny’s old condo to get my car. I drove straight over to Oliver’s, hiked up to the mansion and went straight to my bedroom in the pool house and sat moodily on my bed. I was feeling sorry for myself. I wasn’t silly enough to believe in happily ever after, but some happiness wasn’t too much to expect, right?

Emmaline had Colin and Theodora. Lacey had Jude and her soon to be child. And I had a failed business, a failed marriage, and a sex buddy.

I didn’t begrudge them their happiness. They deserved it. I just wanted my own life to stop falling apart at the seams.

When I was done feeling sorry for myself, I washed my face and looked for my phone. I found it under my bed.

There was a text from Erik still waiting for me.

“What are you doing?” it simply said.

“Feeling sorry for myself,” I mumbled. I tossed the phone across the bed and settled down on my pillow.

My feelings were all over the place. I knew if I were lying to my friends that I was ashamed of my behavior, but who could blame me? I was sleeping with a random guy and I was freshly divorced. I didn’t know what to do with my life. I was at a cross path. I was confused and conflicted. It was amazing that I still knew my left from my right.

I decided to just ignore the text message and call my grandma. She didn’t answer, so I called my uncle instead. I know they spoke every day.

“Hey, have you heard from Grandma today? I just tried to call her, but she didn’t pick up.”

“Resting,” he said shortly. “She’s so stubborn, never listens to a word I say. She needed a nap. She’s got a job and has been working nonstop.”

“What? Tell me she’s not a driver.” I shook my head preparing to hear the worst.

“Worse.”

“What’s worse than Grandma driving?”

“She works at a call center.”

“No!”

“Yep. She’s a telemarketer.”

I lay back down and placed an arm over my eyes and groaned. “No, no, no, no. My sweet grandmother is harassing people for a living.”

“And apparently she’s good at it!” Uncle Niko said cheerfully.

“Uncle Niko, don’t tell me that.” I sat up, forgetting that in all the chaos that had been my life recently, I had forgotten to tell him about Erik’s house. “Oh, I’ve been meaning to tell you, I landed a pretty big gig. Hopefully, it’ll lead to other jobs and I’ll be able to reopen my business.”

“That’s great...but make sure that’s what you really want.”

I looked at the phone. That was strange. What did he mean by that?

“What do you mean by that?”

“I’m just saying maybe you can take this time to get to know yourself. Get to know you better. Find out what you want from life instead of always being what everyone else wants you to be.”

“What are you talking about? I wanted to be an interior designer.”

“I know...I know, but you were so bent on building an empire because Wyatt did---”
