“What is it, Nash?” she asked, wondering why he sounded so serious all of a sudden.
“When I bought the silver cross for North today, I spent the rest of my money on a present for ye.”
“Ye did?” Emotion flowed through her. No one had ever purposely bought her a present before. It made her feel special.
“Aye. I used up all my money but, thankfully, Gavin and Cam gave up their room for us. If no’, we’d be sleepin’ in the street tonight.”
“Oh, Nash, whatever ye bought me sounds expensive. What is it? Please, let me see.” Kellina was truly excited about this.
“Close yer eyes,” he said, taking something out of his pocket.
“Why?”
“Just do it.”
“All right.” Kellina closed her eyes, feeling Nash slipping something onto her finger. “Nash, is that what I think it is?”
“Mayhap.”
“Can I open my eyes now?”
“Just a minute.”
She felt Nash get off the bed. Then she heard the rustling of clothes, followed by the dip of the mattress as Nash settled himself back on the bed again.
“All right. Open yer eyes, lass.”
She opened her eyes, looking at her finger, and gasped. She wore a beautiful, silver, engraved ring. Little etchings of birds, clouds, and a sunshine were carved right into the band of the ring.
“It’s beautiful!” She couldn’t take her eyes off it. Holding up her hand, she inspected the ring closer by moving her hand in different positions.
“I figured it was time to give ye a weddin’ ring. I also thought it appropriate to have things etched into it that we both witnessed from the roof while we were thatchin’. Actually, we saw those things while we were lyin’ on the roof together, lookin’ at the sky. I asked the silversmith to put them on the ring for me.”
“It’s so nice. I love it. Nay, it is too expensive. Why would ye do this, Nash?” Her eyes remained focused on the ring. It was the prettiest thing she’d ever seen in her life and it meant the world to her. Now, she really felt like a married woman.
“I did it because I love ye, Kellina.”
“Oh, Nash! I love it, and I love ye, too. I really love ye.” She reached out to hug and kiss him, first noticing that he was lounging back on the bed, stark naked. “Oooooh, Nash,” she said with a giggle when her eyes roamed lower and she saw the size of his erection.
“I think it’s time ye take yer clothes off, too,” he suggested in a sultry whisper.
“Well, I’m no’ sure,” she said, playfully holding out her hand to look at her ring again. “I think I’d rather just sit here and look at my beautiful ring instead.”
“What?” he bolted to an upright position, sitting there with his back as stiff as his manhood. He looked very upset until he saw her smile. “I see,” he said, equally as playful. “Then go ahead and look at yer ring, Wife. Dinna let me disturb ye.” He started to get off the bed.
“Nash?” she asked, almost thinking he was really leaving. That is, until he knelt at her feet with his hands resting on her knees.
“What are ye doin’?” she asked. “It is too late to propose on bended knee, since we are already married.”
“It is because we are married that I am down here, love.”
“What? I dinna understand.”
With a cocked smile and a quick wink, Nash flipped her skirt up and over his head.
“Nash?” she asked, her heart jumping around in her chest. “W-what are ye doin’?”
“Dinna mind me,” he said in a muffled voice from beneath her skirt.
