I was going to have to ask Casimir about it later.

He had better instincts for things like that than I did.

“I have no idea what that scale looks like.” He frowned as I tried to decide how to respond. “I’ve never been to one of their meetings if that’s what you’re asking.”

What did he actually want to know?

“They told me just dating a guy isn’t good enough to get in.” Brandon just kept going and made me realize I really might attract insane people. “I wanted to join because I think that fall dinner would be a great place to make new contacts but they wouldn’t let me join. It’s a thousand dollars a head.”

How had he offended them?

A thousand dollars a head for a dinner?

“Um, I’ve never actually talked to anyone running the organization but I’m rainbow enough to count.” However that was defined. “And dating a man should count as long as you weren’t just going to dinner with a guy to get a two-for-one special or something like that.”

Why else would a straight man date a guy?

“Or to pick up women?”

He blinked.

I was not going to ask what he’d done…because he might actually tell me.

When had my life gotten so strange?

“What’s he doing?” Paul pushed closer to the window, shoving me out of the way. “Where’s Atlee? We can’t talk to Casimir if Atlee will show up.”

“I know that.” I also knew Casimir coming home late was going to mess up our plans. “It doesn’t matter. We have to hurry. The girls are going to be home earlier than we thought.”

They said they couldn’t find anything to buy but that was bullshit. They were just worried about missing good gossip and were going to take over the best viewing angles all night long.

“Let’s go. He’s just sitting in the driveway.” Playing on his phone. “We can’t wait any longer.”

We needed to have some words with Casimir.

Chapter 11

Casimir

Today I was asked if I was rainbow enough to join the LGBT Chamber of Commerce or if I was just a little colorful. Should I have gotten offended or just answered the question? I’m kind of on the fence.

How had that come up in a conversation?

What had he said at work to prompt someone to ask him that?

Frowning at my phone, I quickly typed out a reply as I sat in the car in the driveway.

That’s going to be situationally dependent. Is the guy usually a dick?

From what Atlee had told me about his schedule, he should’ve been heading into a meeting any second, but his reply came back quickly.

Yes but it’s generally unintentional. He’s blunt and awkward which is a terrible combination.

Atlee knew the weirdest people and really didn’t seem to understand how crazy they all were. But I kind of appreciated looking so normal compared to the rest of them.
