“I’ll look.” Alyssa creeps toward the test like it’s an unexploded bomb.

“W-what does it say?” Kayla peeks out from behind her hands.

“It’s positive. You’re pregnant, babe.”

Kayla promptly bursts into tears. “No, no, no. I can’t be pregnant right now!” she wails.

“Hey, I thought you wanted to start a family?” It’s what she’s always said.

“I do, but I don’t want to be pregnant on a girls’ trip. I’m going to be the DD—the boring one—when all I really want is a margarita. Can we keep this between us for now until I tell Louis?” Her head falls onto my shoulder, and I do my best to comfort her, although I don’t really know what I can say in this situation to make things any better.

“Of course,” Alyssa and I both agree.

“Well, how about we all have mocktails? Either we all drink or none of us drink?” I suggest.

The look of pure horror on Alyssa’s face at that suggestion is priceless.

Sniffling, Kayla looks at me. “Y-you would really do that?”

“Of course I would if it would make you feel better.”

“Thanks, babe. Ok, let’s get changed, go and eat our weight in food, and pretend we’re drunk on non-alcoholic margaritas!” Kayla tries to sound optimistic.

We end up having the best night, just hanging out together, laughing and joking about random things. I’ve missed this, and I vow to make the effort to do more of this in the future.

Chapter 64

Jake

Lottie’s been abnormally quiet today. I mean, on game days we never get to talk a whole lot, but today she’s more silent than usual.

The game was earlier than normal, so we watched our crime show while we ate breakfast together via FaceTime. Lottie caught me up on what she and the girls have been doing, and how today they were going shopping followed by dinner and a few drinks.

We won our game. Although New York were playing to win, we had the edge in the final few seconds, and I managed to secure us the win.

After our own celebrations in a local bar, we had a driver drop us back at the hotel for some much-needed rest. I debate calling Lottie, but we’re three hours ahead, meaning it’s only 10 p.m. where she is and she’s likely still out.

I shoot her a quick text, letting her know I’m around if she wants to call.

Jake – Hey, baby, I’m back in my room and missing you

Jake - Give me a call if you want *winky face emoji*

Half an hour later, my phone rings, and a very drunk Lottie appears on my screen. I have never seen her like this before. She’s more drunk than when she first kissed me, and that’s saying something. The girl is absolutely hammered right now.

“Heyyyyy, J! Oh, that rhymes! I could be a poet, and I wouldn’t even know it,” she laughs to herself.

Her hair is falling out from her ponytail and her makeup has nearly all but worn off, but she’s still the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen.

“You sound like you had fun.”

“I had the best time. We had non-alcoholic margaritas because Kayla’s pregnant,” She hiccups as she whispers to me. Those were not non-alcoholic, and say what? Kayla’s pregnant?

“Ooops,” she covers her mouth with her hand, realizing her slip. “Is there a chance you didn’t hear what I just said?” She looks so devastated she’s just spilled the beans on her friend's secret that I take pity on her.

“Hear what? I didn’t hear anything.”

Lottie breathes a sigh of relief, “Phew, that was a close one.”
