I nodded. “I couldn’t think or talk or anything. It happens sometimes. Rendered speechless, or whatever you call it.”
“Can you think now?”
“Kind of. I don’t want to do algebra or anything, though.”
“But you can think, right?”
“Uh huh. Just keep it simple.”
“Okay. Think about this.” He tilted his head to the side. “Coming back and staying after I get back.”
“For how long?”
“As long as you want.”
My mind escaped me. I stared back at him like a fool.
He lifted his head and looked me in the eyes. “Ally?”
The staring continued. Responding wasn’t an option. I managed to offer him a smile.
He kissed me. “Did your mind go blank again?”
I nodded.
He grinned. “I like that I can do that to you.”
