CONNOR: Whatever it takes…

CONNOR: FYI I did reach out to my Princeton counselor and she emailed me a referral for someone down here in Orlando.

EDEN: Oh great!

CONNOR: I have my first appointment tomorrow. Just wanted you to know.

EDEN: Proud of you.

CONNOR: Thanks. Tomorrow night’s still good?

EDEN: Yes, and I haven’t forgotten about the checklist. I…noticed you haven’t brought it up again since Monday.

CONNOR: Only because I didn’t want to pressure you. Plus, you had a busy week with the away game.

EDEN: Well, I’ll be ready tomorrow. It was interesting...

CONNOR: I’ll bring my answers and we’ll compare.

EDEN: I still can’t believe that you’re spending the night in my dorm room.

CONNOR: Just didn’t want to risk it, since Rawley will be home all weekend with Avery in Tampa seeing her family.

EDEN: It’ll be a tight squeeze for you.

CONNOR: Don’t mind that, as long as it’s with you.

EDEN: Also, Bree went a little crazy with the Halloween decorations, just to warn you.

CONNOR: Nothing’s gonna scare me off from tomorrow.

CONNOR

Idisregard the stares as I wait for Eden outside the main door of her dorm. The two women looking me over are probably some of her dormmates trying to figure out who I’m meeting.

“Come on inside,” Eden says as she peeks out of the door.

I tighten my grip on the small duffle I’m carrying and slip through the door.

She laughs as I kiss her cheek. “Yeah, not really incognito there, Connor. Six foot six and wearing that.”

I look down. Oh, I’m wearing a Waves T-shirt. I didn’t even consider it.

“No one knows who I am, though, right?” I mean, practice squad players who kicked for Princeton aren’t exactly celebrities.

“No, I’m teasing. But one day…”

“Thanks for your faith in me. Now can we go to your room?”

She gives me a last amused look and then leads me up the stairs to the second floor, turning left at the top. “Bree’s still in there, just so you know. She’s leaving soon.”

“Totally fine.”

Not that I could have missed her. A loud “Hi, Princeton boy” welcomes me once we step into their suite.

“Hi, Bree. Will I ever move past that nickname?”
