“Whose phone is this, Rick?”

“Well, it turns out I felt the need to supply Cindy with a running commentary of our whole night out together. You want a recap of what happened?” he asks. “There it is.”

“Right. But why do you have her phone?” I ask. I run through the texts, one by one, feeling better by the second. “If you sent her all this shit, then it must be in your phone too.”

“True,” he grins. “But then I wouldn’t have an excuse to find out more about Cindy.”

“Dude,” I groan. “Please don’t go there. She’s Darcy’s friend, and I know you. You’ll mess her up and break her heart, then leave us to deal with the aftermath. I don’t want to get involved with that.”

“What?” Rick protests innocently. “You do something once, and suddenly you’ve got a bad reputation? I’m a changed man, I promise.”

I groan and lay back on the bed with relief at what I just read. I feel a hell of a lot better having read through Rick’s texts to her phone since it’s all just innocent banter. Seems we got drunk and Rick dared me to do a lap of the hotel, naked. Which, clearly, I did. No wonder I was getting funny looks all day. I’d normally be worried about what Greg would think about my little stunt, but from the photos, he looks like he couldn’t have cared less.

“See? It was all just a bit of harmless fun,” Rick says with a shrug. “Now, what are we doing tonight? Drinking, strip club, or poker. Your call, man.”

I roll my eyes at him. “How about we attend the rehearsal dinner instead? You know, for the wedding we’re here for in the first place, remember? My wedding, hmm?” I say.

“Well, shit,” he says. “I have to go to that too? I thought that was just for you, Darcy and the bride and groom’s parents.”

“You’re one of my groomsmen and, so far, the only one here, so you’re not getting out of this, dude,” I say, grinning.

“Fine, fine, I’ll do it,” he says begrudgingly. “Hey, that means Cindy will be there, won’t she?” he asks, his face lighting up like a kid on Christmas Day.

“Yeah, she will. How come you’re so suddenly interested in Cindy, Rick?”

“What?” he asks innocently. “Oh, I have to return her phone to her, don’t I?” he says as he saunters into the bathroom. I breathe a heavy sigh. Rick can be such hard work, sometimes.

I reach for my phone and text Darcy to ask her to meet me downstairs. When I walk into the lobby, I’m surprised to find her already there, standing in a darkened corner by a window. She’s the first thing I see. Dressed in a short, black dress that hugs each one of her sexy curves and holding a small clutch purse. She’s away from the bright lights of the lobby, and she doesn’t even know it, but she’s the center of attention. Her long, dark hair hangs loosely around her shoulders, and those legs—God, they seem to go on forever.

I notice I’m not the only one staring, either. They can stare all they want, because she’s all mine. She turns around and sees me, and her smile lights up the room. I walk over and wrap my arms around her waist, pulling her in close to me for a kiss. I don’t care that we’re on show in the hotel lobby, and when my lips touch hers, it’s electric.

“You,” I whisper, “look fucking amazing.”

She giggles, her cheeks flushed as she slaps my hand away from her ass.

“Not here,” she laughs, ducking out of my embrace. “And not now or we’ll be late. We have to be there in ten minutes. What’s gotten into you?”

“We maybe a little late,” I nod, “Because the question isn’t what’s gotten into me, it’s what’s going to be getting into you.”

“What do you mean?” she giggles, almost in hysterics. “What is going to be getting into me?” she says, biting her lip. So, fucking, sexy. She knows exactly what I mean, but her sweet, butter-wouldn’t-melt, coyness just makes me want her even more.

“Me,” I growl, as I take her by the hand and lead her out of view of the Reception desk and toward the door to an empty meeting room. “Come with me,” I order.
