Met… and held.
I slowly rode him, groaning softly as the bed creaked beneath us. Tingles of pleasure began to snake down my spine, and my skin heated, like the fire inside that tattoo-like mark seeped into me too.
“Harder,” Onyx said, head tipping back again. His eyes remained on me though, peering at me through his dark lashes.
My knees dug more into the mattress as I increased my pace and took him deeper, slapping one hand on his shoulder and moving the other between my legs to stroke myself. He gently knocked that hand aside and took me in his own palm, the burning rubies in his irises more vibrant now.
The tingles of pleasure in my body spread wider, like ripples in a pond. And with it came a swell of emotion in my heart.
“You recall waking in the field beside the dark wood?” Lupin had asked me the last time we’d spoken. “It’s because the knights weren’t the ones you were originally meant to encounter first in this realm. One of your other men… one you’ve yet to realize… was intended to be your first.”
Onyx.
Meeting him. Feeling the pull of a soul-deep yearning each time our eyes met. And now being in his bed as we lost ourselves to pleasure. All of it had been destined from the very beginning.
Overcome with a sudden achy pressure in my heart, I kissed Onyx, my body quaking as all those feelings flooded my system. Physical pleasure mingled with that surge of emotion, both heightening the electric tingles and pressure building in my core.
A pressure that exploded from me in a shuddering cry.
“Good boy.” Onyx held onto me, snapping his hips upward. Cum coated his palm with my release, and he continued stroking me through it. Dragging it out. “Don’t hold back your moans. Let me hear how good you feel.”
Waves of ecstasy crashed into me, one after the other, making it impossible for me to hold them back even if I’d wanted to. My insides clamped down on him as those waves of indescribable pleasure consumed me. I looked down at him, our bodies slapping together, and slid my hand to his neck, curling my fingers in the back of his black hair.
His fingertips dug into my hips and a crease marred his brow as his muscles tensed. He was close. The red in his eyes flashed brighter before his thrusts faltered.
But he made no sound.
“That’s not playing fair, my lord,” I panted, coming down faster on him. “You heard my moans. Now let me hear yours.”
The faintest hint of a smile touched his lips before a soft groan escaped them. As his cock pulsed, he leaned forward and bit at my throat, grazing his teeth along my jugular. His breath whispered over my skin, tickling the sensitive place beneath my ear. I shuddered at the sensation and kept riding him, milking him for every drop he had.
After the waves of our release settled, I collapsed against his chest and worked on catching my breath. And tried to shove down the dread forming in my gut.
Last time we’d had sex, Onyx had pulled away almost immediately and went over to the washbasin on the other side of the room. Not looking at me. Not saying a single word except for when he told me to leave.
Now that he’d gotten his rocks off, would he do that again? Revert to denying our bond and trying to keep me at a distance?
“What are you thinking?” He smoothed his hand along my spine.
“Just wondering what happens next.” I pushed my face against his shoulder, hiding in the volley of his silky hair. The strands held traces of woodsmoke, as though he’d been standing beside a bonfire on a cool autumn night.
Onyx didn’t let me hide for long. He took hold of my chin and tipped my face up to meet his stare. “I’m incapable of staying away from you. Now more than ever. Whether that be because of the intensity of our fated bond or my sheer depraved selfishness, I haven’t an answer.”
“How does it make you selfish?” I asked. “I thought you didn’t want to be with me. So, technically, I’m the selfish one for letting it get this far.”
“You are far from selfish.” Onyx traced the edge of my jaw. “There’s truly not a wicked place inside you, is there? So unlike the one before you.”
The one before me.
Saint Vera.
“Does this mean you’re no longer suspicious of me and my saintly powers?” I asked, hopeful. “Or am I still a rotten snake in the grass?”
“Once again, I never said you were rotten.” His mouth slanted into a smile.
A smile that kick-started a round of flutters in my chest. Damn him.
“Perhaps I’m the rotten one.” Onyx rested against the headboard and gently shifted me off his lap. But he didn’t get out of bed or put any distance between us. Instead, he brought me against his side and draped the sheet over us. “Marring your skin as I did.”
