“I don’t care—”

“It’s okay.” I held my hand up toward Alvarez, unable to keep the smile off my face. His eyebrows squished together, head tilting as he looked at me. As he dragged his gaze down the length of my arm, to where Jael’s fingers wound between my own before letting go.

Alvarez crossed his arms, and behind me, Gloria muttered, “Don’t you even—”

“Glo!”

Jael laughed quietly at my side while Gloria glared at her.

“You owe me, you little b—”

“Glo!”

“Okay.” I gripped Jael’s shoulders and I spun her away from Gloria. “We’re done here.” Giving her a gentle shove, I turned to Alvarez. “Sorry about that. But don’t worry. It’s fine. Nothing’s wrong.”

Jael chuckled again and when I raised my brow at her, she had the decency to look sheepish. But she wiggled her fingers in the air, turning her smirk toward the woman behind my back. “Adios, Glo. See you next week.”

I swatted her butt, and Jael jumped in her place before turning and walking away, a spring in her step.

“Seriously.” I extended my hand toward Alvarez, shaking my head, while trying to contain the laugh that wanted to break free from my chest. “It’s nothing. She’s just playing with your sister. Trying to get her in trouble.”

He shook my hand, looking no less ill at ease than he had when we’d gotten here. “I think it runs both ways.”

“It absolutely does.” He gave me a nod, but I held his hand firmly as he tried to turn toward his sister. “Go easy on her.”

“We’ll see.”

Without a backward glance, I sped through the crowd, trying to catch up with Jael. She disappeared around the corner of the house, and I was right on her heels, chasing her as she started to run.

We made it through the front door, rushing down the long hallway past Zio’s office and a few other rooms, all the way to the back of the house to the sitting room. Jael spun to face me, smile wide and eyes wild. But only for a second, because my hands snaked into her hair, my lips crashing into hers the way I’d wanted to out by the pool.

I slanted my lips over hers, kissing her with all I was worth, my body pressing against her as I pushed her backward until she tumbled onto the sofa, breaking our connection.

Outside, Zio’s voice was projected over the speakers set up around the backyard. But inside, it was only Jael and me. Her chest heaved, each breath pressing her breasts into the air. I bent, stroking my thumb along the edge of her shirt, tracing under her breast before circling her nipple.

“Rolly,” she gasped, and my cock stirred to life at the sound. I moved forward, kneeling between her legs, mouth coming down on her nipple and the shirt that covered it. She groaned, giving a feeble push at my shoulders. “You’re going to get me wet.”

“That’s the idea.” She blushed then, red racing up her chest to her cheeks. With the sunburn coloring her skin, the added blush made her look like candy.

So tempting.

So delicious.

I gripped her hips and then pulled her forward on the couch until our bodies were touching once again.

“What did you lie to her about?” I asked, my breath fanning across her face as she tried to kiss me.

Her jade green eyes shone in the afternoon sun coming through the windows. “Nothing.”

“David.”

That crooked smile cut across her face, and she shrugged, running her hands over my shoulders. “I didn’t tell her anything. It’s not my fault if she thought she had a chance with you.”

“With me?”

Jael’s fingers slid up my neck, playing with the edges of my hair. Her smile dropped then. “She’s lonely. She picked up her whole life to move here with Hector. He won’t let her do anything but go to school and work at the shop. She doesn’t have friends, no man could ever be good enough for her, according to him.”

“You like her.”
