He’d thought he’d experienced every pain known to man in the last few weeks but having the woman he loved walk away from him was like nothing he could imagine. His pride had kept him from begging, but he knew deep down it never would have worked anyway.

If there was one thing he knew about Nadia, it was that once her mind was made up she saw it through. His office door opened on the third day since the light had left his world and two women he didn’t know walked into the room.

“Excuse me, do I know you?”

He could see now that both were pregnant, the shorter blonde one not too far along but the taller of the two with short brown hair was, he guessed, close to popping.

“Nope, not exactly, but we know you. You heart-breaking, spirit-killing demon.”

Gideon sat back not entirely sure what to say or do. “Sorry?”

The blonde, who was five foot three if she was lucky, leaned over his desk and he found himself leaning back at the fire in her eyes.

“You should be, scuz bucket. If I had my way, I’d string you up by your balls and when those fuckers fell off I’d put them into a casserole for Monty and Scout.”

“Who in God’s name are you?”

The taller one leaned in then. “Your worst nightmare, asshole.”

“That’s it, I’m calling security.”

Gideon picked up the phone to call his security team and fire them all for letting these two maniacs into his office when the door burst open. Two men stalked in with deadly, furious looks aimed at the two women.

“You call this baby shopping, Charlie?”

“Busted.”

“Snow, what the hell? You said you were meeting Charlie for coffee.”

“We had coffee first.”

The man, who wore a three-piece suit and looked very familiar, growled. “Don’t split hairs with me, Snow.”

“He needed telling.”

“You need to mind your own business, Charlie, and you too, Snow.”

The blonde they were calling Snow glared at him. “See what you did?”

“Me?” Gideon pointed to his chest. “You barged into my office like a pair of deranged mental patients issuing threats.”

The suit pointed a warning finger at him. “Watch how you speak to my wife.”

“Then get your wife out of my office.”

Charlie shook her head. “What the hell did Duchess see in you?”

“You know Nadia?” His heart beat ten to the dozen and snippets of conversation began to filter through. Nadia had mentioned two of her colleagues and friends were expecting.

“Yeah, we’re her family.”

“How is she?”

Snow sniffed, throwing her hair over her shoulder in disdain. “Like you care.”

“I care. I love her.”

“If you love her, genius, why the fuck are you here in this boring ivory tower while she breaks her heart over you in Hereford?”
