“Hey, you.”
“Hey, Pax. Did I call you by accident?”
“No, I answered Roz’s phone because she’s dealing with something else for a second.”
“Shall I call back?”
“No, she won’t be a second. How are things going?”
“More questions than answers right now.”
“Anything I can help with?”
“Maybe. What do you know about Chelsea Vos?”
Pax’s superpower was her ability to find out any information on anyone. She never went into the field but was the person who handled all the logistics. If they needed a place to stay, she found it, information, Pax found it, guns, weapons, exfil, Pax handled it all. Bebe had cried at her wedding when she married Calvin Blake, one of the men from Eidolon.
“I know her parents are diplomats and that she’s a spoiled social climber who posts everything she does on Instagram and TikTok. Why? Is she a suspect?”
“Well, we thought she was dead, but she just turned up here most definitely alive.”
“Oh, wow. That’s suspicious. What does the prince think?”
“Leo has offered her his guard, but I don’t think he trusts her either. The problem is there are so many variables right now.”
“Leo?”
Bebe felt the blush on her cheeks and thanked God this wasn’t a video call, Pax would spot her guilt a mile away. “It’s what he told me to call him.”
“Mmmhmm.”
“I sent Roz some pictures of the two new hires at the palace. Did she manage to find out anything about them?”
“Yeah, hang on. Here she is. Stay safe, Bebe. Love you, lady.”
“Love you too, Pax.”
“Bebe, how are you?”
“Fine, I’m safe but I have so much information and I need to narrow it down. Do you have anything for me?”
“Yes, and you aren’t going to like it.”
Bebe groaned. “Wouldn’t be a Zenobi mission without a little FUBAR thrown in for entertainment.”
“True story. So, Brody James is CIA. Looks like they didn’t trust us after all and sent in one of their own to try and figure it out first. That’s the good news.”
“Great.”
“Yeah, Albin Wojcik is actually Albin Symanski.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Nope. We don’t think he’s there for you but if he finds out you’re there, he won’t waste the opportunity to kill you. He’s still furious you killed his brother.”
“It’s not my fault his brother was an evil, child-murdering bastard.”
“No, but he’s the same in that he’s a contract killer. If the money is right, it doesn’t matter to him who dies, man, woman, or child.”
