“I can’t believe I got the jump on you.”

Bishop rubbed his head where he’d hit it. “Me either, but then you always could.” Charlie smiled and it was forced but he could see the effort she was making to call a truce. “It’s those tiny, baby feet you have.”

Charlie snorted then blushed, showing him a glimpse of the woman he’d first met. “I do not have baby feet.”

“Darlin’, they’re tiny.”

Charlie waved her hand in the air with nonchalance. “Whatever, better than those clod hoppers you have.”

Bishop chuckled, scrubbing a hand down his face to hide his elation that they were back to the friendly banter they’d once had. “I can’t apologise for the size of my feet. You know what they say… big feet big….”

“Head?” She crossed her arms pushing her perky breasts closer to the edge of her t-shirt and he glimpsed a chain hanging low.

“Yeah, head,” he answered his voice thick with lust again.

Charlie’s eyes narrowed, recognising the sound before she spun around. “This place is amazing. The private sector is clearly the way to go.”

“It is pretty special here.”

“So, what are you doing up still?”

Bishop didn’t want to admit that he couldn’t sleep because of her, so he shrugged. “I thought I’d help Watchdog.”

“Can I help?”

“Sure. Can you grab this while I get the coffee mugs?” He handed her a load of snacks he knew Watchdog would devour throughout the night, protein bars, some nut-ball things that tasted like sawdust, and a pack of chocolate Hobnobs.

“Still a sucker for a Hobnob biscuit?”

They walked side by side down the hall, her shoulder brushing his arm as he opened the door for them to go in with the three large mugs balanced. “The King of biscuits.”

“Did you know the name Hobnob comes from the verb ‘to hobnob’? Which means to spend time being friendly with someone important or famous.”

Charlie blinked and moved closer to Watchdog, a smile teasing her mouth. “Did you know if you laid all the Jaffa Cakes eaten each year in a line, they’d stretch from the UK to Australia and back?”

Watchdog stopped typing and turned to face Charlie with a smile on his face. Bishop stood back and watched, his arms folded after placing the mugs down. He’d forgotten what a trivia geek his wife was.

“Did you know the humble biscuit was the first food to reach the South Pole with the explorer Roald Amundsen in 1911?”

“I actually did know that.”

“Bishop, how could you call this woman a she-devil? She’s a positive delight.”

Bishop facepalmed. “Way to throw me under the bus, asshole.” He dared a peek at Charlie but saw her laughing at his embarrassment.

She leaned closer to Watchdog, laying her hand on his shoulder. “It’s fine. It’s nothing he hasn’t called me to my face and I kind of deserve it. I did shoot him after all.”

Bishop clenched his jaw, his back teeth grinding together as he watched her hand on his friend’s shoulder. It was an innocent touch, but he couldn’t control the growl that slipped past his lips.

“Um, you’re gonna need to stop touching me. I might need my balls one day and I think Bish is about two seconds from ripping them off.”

Charlie glanced at him in surprise as she dropped her hand, her lips forming a perfect O that made his dick go hard.

“Shall we get to work?”

He turned his back on his wife and friend and pulled up a chair, hoping to calm his nerves before he did something monumentally stupid.
