A cry left her mouth, and she grabbed a cushion to stifle the sounds of pleasure she couldn’t hold back. The climax hurtled towards her, legs shaking, body tensing, and she felt like she was on the precipice of something monumental, holding back fear that if she let go she’d explode into a thousand tiny pieces and never be the same again.

His mouth left her, and she groaned in despair as she threw the cushion to the side to glare at him. His eyes were intense as they watched her, the blue so deep like the ocean during a summer storm.

“Let go, angel. I won’t let you fall. I’ll never let you fall.”

As his lips found her clit and he redoubled his effort. She trusted him, knowing without question that he’d catch her and that he’d honour his word. Just that knowledge was enough to push her over the edge where she stilled before falling, a million sensations flooding her body as it pulsed with pleasure like she’d never known before. Tiny aftershocks of her orgasm made her body jerk as he lifted his head and smiled. The wetness of her climax covered his chin and the sexy smirk made her heart skip a beat. He lowered her body to the bed and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before crawling in beside her and rolling her to her side so her injured shoulder was on top.

Not sure what was happening she turned her head and he kissed her before she could speak. Her body languid and soft from the explosive climax she felt drugged by him, and a warm feeling of affection overwhelmed her.

Releasing her, he looked down at her before pressing another kiss to her lips as if he couldn’t seem to stop from doing so. “Get some rest, angel.”

Settling in behind her she felt the evidence of his need for her pressing into her back and made to move. He held her fast, his arm across her waist, the other he’d pushed beneath her neck, making his biceps her new favourite pillow.

She wiggled against him even as her eyes closed. “What about you?”

“Ignore it.”

“That’s kind of hard to do.”

“Will you stop giving him attention, you’re making it worse.”

“Then let me take care of you.”

His breath tickled her ear. “No, that was for you. You need to rest and get better before we take this further.”

“That doesn’t seem fair.”

“I’ll live.”

She wriggled again and he groaned, grinding his hips against her ass to try and ease the ache. “You sure?”

“No, I might die, but if I do then at least I die in the knowledge that I did right by you. Now go to sleep.”

Her body relaxed into his as he pulled the sheet over them both, his legs tangled with hers, the hair on his calves tickling her. As she felt sleep pull her under, she couldn’t stop the smile from creasing her lips. Her body relaxed, her mind was clear of the flotsam of the last few weeks and she slept.

Chapter 15

The sun glinted off the water as Reaper paddled out to sea, the sun kissing his skin with warmth. The smell of salt filled his nose and filled him with a contentment he hadn’t felt ever before. The last two weeks had been almost perfect. He’d spent their days showing Lucía the sights of Cairns. They’d been snorkelling in Palm Cove, visited the great barrier reef, had picnics, and walked and talked as if they’d known each other for years. Everything was easy between them, natural, and then there were the nights.

They hadn’t had sex yet. He was conscious of her shoulder and ribs, and he didn’t want to hurt her. They’d done most other things though. He’d found seeing her face contort with the beauty of her climax was his favourite thing to watch and had spent hours doing so.

“Come on, slowpoke.”

Caleb was paddling up behind him, a glint of sibling rivalry in his eye that made Reaper grin. The reconnection with his family had given him great satisfaction and made him realise how much he missed them. For years he’d avoided coming home, where so many memories of the father he hated lived but being home now, he knew it wasn’t the case. The love between him and his brother, mum, niece and nephew, and even John was the overriding feeling. He was grateful that Caleb and John had made the trip up from the Gold Coast again.

A splash of water hit his face and he glared at Caleb, whose face was alive with laughter. “Oh, it’s on. I can beat your puny ass any day of the week and twice on Sundays.”

“Put your money where your mouth is, bro.”

Reaper grinned and began to paddle harder, the waves were perfect and as he waited for the perfect one to roll in, he relished the freedom of the sea. He missed it and yet this still felt like a holiday, not his real life.

As he began to paddle back to shore, chasing the wave and waiting for the perfect moment, the energy and zest for life he’d been missing filled him and he rode it into shore, a smile wreathed on his face that couldn’t be torn away.

Jumping off his board he grinned at Caleb and high fived him. “Nice one.”

“You, too. I thought perhaps land life had stolen your mojo.”

Reaper laughed as his eyes caught the beach and he searched for Lucía, and for a split second, he didn’t see her. His stomach began to freefall until he spotted her sitting with his mother and John, his niece and nephew playing in the sand nearby.
