“It’s okay, doc, let go. I’ve got you. I want to feel you come all over my cock.”
His words were like a trigger, and she came so hard her world exploded in flashing colour, every muscle clenched, and she heard Mark moan loudly as he pumped his hips and his orgasm hit with a roar.
Her legs slumped to the side as he fell onto her, kissing her neck as her hands stroked the silky strands of his hair. She loved the sex, but this moment right here was her perfection. When they were both satiated and she saw the real Mark Decker. He looked at her and smiled and said the words that were in her heart.
“I love you, Mark.”
His face fell and she instantly regretted her impulsive words as he pulled away from her and they were both confronted with the realisation they’d just had sex without a condom.
“Fuck, that was a mistake.”
He looked angry and scared, and she wanted to reassure him.
Savannah sat up on the desk, suddenly feeling exposed and vulnerable which he’d never made her feel before. “It’s okay, I’m on the pill.”
He looked at her with disdain and hatred and she felt her heart shrivel in pain. “It is not okay, Savannah.”
He stalked away to the bathroom, leaving her feeling cheap and unsure. She stood and straightened her clothes as she listened to him in the bathroom. Dressed, she felt marginally more prepared for the storm she knew was coming. She should have waited to tell him she loved him.
When he walked back in, his armour was back in place. His three-piece suit, shirt, and perfectly knotted tie made him look untouchable.
“Can we talk?” she asked, standing to go to him and stopping as he gave her a look that would put the fear of God in any man. She wasn’t afraid of him, he’d never physically hurt her, but he had the power to do so much worse.
“No, there’s nothing to talk about. You’re safe and this arrangement is over.”
“Mark, please.”
“No, Savannah.” He swiped his hand through the air with finality. “We had fun, but this was never more. I’m sorry you let your feelings get involved but I don’t love you. I love my wife and, I’m sorry to say, you would be a poor substitute for her, a cheap copy.”
If he’d struck her, he couldn’t have hurt her more. She felt like her insides were collapsing, her heart tearing open, and she wondered how she was still alive. Tears ran freely down her cheeks now. She knew exactly what he was doing, and to some extent, she understood but she had to make him see reason. “Mark, don’t do this to us, to me.”
He straightened his cuffs and looked at her as if she were an irritant. “I’m not doing anything. There is no us.”
She knew he was lying, could see it in his eyes, no man touched a woman like he did her if he felt nothing. “You’re lying, you care for me. I could feel it when you touched me.”
“That was merely a physical response to a good fuck.”
“Why are you doing this?” She couldn’t stop the sobs now, no matter how hard she tried to save her dignity.
“Stop the waterworks, Savannah, it won’t work. It’s time for you to leave.”
“You want me to go right now?”
He folded his arms, and she could feel her heartbreak turn to fury. How dare he treat her this way.
“I think it’s best.”
Savannah walked to the door, his scent almost crushing her as she walked past him. She stopped at the door and turned back to him as he sat behind his desk and opened his laptop as if he hadn’t just broken her heart. “If I walk out that door, there is no going back.”
He met her eyes and his were cold as he nodded. “Very well.” He dropped his eyes back to the screen. “Close the door on your way out.”
Savannah left it open in a petulant sign of rebellion and ran upstairs. She packed her things, shoving them in a bag, eager to get out of there before she broke down uncontrollably and begged him. She loved him and knew this was his stupid way of protecting himself, but she wouldn’t be his whipping boy. He needed to find his own way and if what they’d had the last few weeks wasn’t enough, he’d die a lonely old man. Zipping the bag, she took one last glance around the room and left. She walked down the stairs and past his office which now had the door closed and out the front door.
Gunner saw the look on her face and rushed to her, worry etched on his handsome face.
He looked back to the house as her legs gave way. “Savannah, what is it?”
“Nothing. Can you give me a ride home?”
His arm came around her and she saw him frown at Blake and nod toward the house. “Find out what the hell happened.”
He turned back to her. “Yes, of course. Would you like me to call Lacey?”
He was such a sweet man and Lacey was so lucky, but she needed to be alone and with her own things right now. She shook her head. “No. Just take me home please.”
He guided her to his car and helped her in as if she’d break. As she looked back at the house and saw the man she loved standing in the window watching her leave, she thought she might too.
