Chapter Seventeen

“Letme show you to your room.”

Savannah had barely finished straightening her clothing when Mark spoke, his tone back to being cool but friendly, nonetheless. She had no idea what had caused that spectacular lack of control from him resulting in her getting thoroughly fucked against his desk, but she wasn’t complaining. It was probably the single sexiest thing ever to happen to her. Mark Decker was one hot, dominant, alpha male, and her body responded to him in a way she didn’t recognise. If he kept this up, he’d ruin her for other men for the rest of her life. Who was she kidding, he probably already had.

“Here you go. The bathroom is across the hall. I have my own, so you’ll have your privacy.”

Savannah looked around at the beautiful double bedroom that looked like a luxury hotel suite. Decorated in a champagne gold and plum colour, it was stunning and just her style. “Thank you, Mark, for doing this. I know I’m putting you out and if you change your mind, I can make other arrangements.”

She faced him and gave him an out she hoped he wouldn’t take, because the truth was, she didn’t feel safe with others like she did him. A trust had formed, a bond, and while she had no idea what he felt for her, she recognised she was falling for him. It would be healthier to leave and stay with one of the others, but she wanted this time with him no matter the cost.

Mark hung his head a second, his hand on the door frame before his eyes met hers and she could see restraint in them. He walked toward her, and she forced her feet to stay still and not lean toward him, seeking his touch like a desperate woman.

A gasp escaped her when his arm went around her waist and he pulled her, so she was flush with his hard body. His head dipped and she looked up into a face that was too handsome for words. He made her needy and hungry, her actions that of a teen with her first crush, not a grown woman with a successful career and an ex-husband. Her hands braced on his chest, she leaned back slightly.

“You’re not going anywhere. I’ve given you this room but let me be clear, I want you in my bed for the duration of your stay here, but that’s up to you. In no way do I see you as putting me out or as an inconvenience. I want you here, doc.”

His voice softened with sincerity at the end and Savannah got the feeling he was waging some internal war with himself. “Okay, Mark, but promise you’ll tell me if it gets too much? I never want to be a burden to someone.”

His lips dropped to her neck and skimmed her pulse and she shivered. “How could anyone ever consider you a burden?”

“I mean it, Mark.”

He sighed and his head came up and she fought the desire that blazed under her skin. This man was like her personal Kryptonite. When he was around and looking at her like he was now, all reasonable thought left her brain.

He released her and stepped back. “I know, and I’ll tell you if it becomes an issue. Now, would you like to get some dinner? I can cook or order out.”

Her eyebrows rose in surprise. “You cook? This I have to see.”

“Prepare to be amazed.”

Savannah followed him out of the room he’d allocated her and passed several closed doors, idly wondering which one was his.

“Mine is the one next to yours, in case you’re wondering how to find me later.” He turned and winked, and she blushed as he read her mind.

They went down the stairs, and she couldn’t keep her eyes still as they took in the gorgeous house. She’d hardly taken it in when they’d arrived, too pissed off at first and then too busy having her mind blown by her sexy protector.

The kitchen was drool-worthy with large, gloss grey cupboards and stainless-steel appliances for every activity known to man. The main kitchen island had a waterfall edge with seating for six people that she’d die for.

“This house is amazing! How long have you been here?”

Mark ducked his head in the fridge and began pulling things out and placing them on the side. He held up a packet of chicken breasts. “Harissa chicken and roast veg?”

“Sounds wonderful.”

He began to season the chicken with a paste, and she sat at the island and watched before asking if she could help. He pointed to the veg and she began chopping the peppers ready for roasting.

“In answer to your earlier question, I’ve been here five years. I moved to the UK ten years ago when I began working for Jack. I had a flat in town at first, but this came up at a steal because of a foreclosure with the developers and I couldn’t resist. The fact it was fully decorated was a bonus.”

“It’s beautiful. Didn’t you feel the need to change anything to how you wanted it?” She knew, as gorgeous as this was, she would’ve changed things, to put her stamp on the house so to speak.

Mark slid the chicken into the oven and washed his hands again. “Not really. I work too much to worry about shit like that.”

Savannah pushed the veg his way and he took over. “Do you want a glass of wine?”

She cocked her head. “Are you having one?”

Mark shook his head. “No, I don’t drink a lot.”
