“You know, I didn’t like that guy when I met him. He was stand-offish, which is fine. He doesn’t have to like us but the way he was just made me think that he objected to the intrusion with Rose. It was possessive. Even the waitress seemed to dislike him.” Cruz sat forward. “Shit, that’s where I knew her face from. The waitress that was killed was the same one who served us at the restaurant.”
“Did she serve Harlan and Rose too?”
Cruz shook his head. “Not sure but it would be easy to find out.”
“I’ll send the details to Quint.”
“If this is all linked, he’s dangerous and we need to stop him.”
“Agreed, but he’s gone. He checked out of his hotel the day he last saw Rose at the house and I can’t find him anywhere. I’ve set up an alert to let me know when he’s spotted.”
“Anything we can do? I get that we’re doing this on the side, but this is Rose.”
“Lyric is looking into it for now, but if I need anything, I’ll shout. Did anything come back from the sweep of Rose’s house?”
“Nope, not a thing out of place.”
“Damn, I was hoping for something. Even if it eliminates him so we can find out who is stalking her. The fact they got in her house worries me. I’ve changed the locks and fitted a new alarm, but I can’t be there twenty-four seven, much as I want to be.”
“I know, it’s tough. Seeing the woman you love in danger is terrifying. When it was Mickie in the line of fire in that clubhouse, I thought I’d puke with fear but if there’s one thing all that taught me, it’s that these women are stronger than we know. Mickie is definitely stronger than me, and Rose is the same.”
“Yeah, we’re lucky sons of bitches. On that note I’m going home to my girl.”
