“Already done. The doctor is one Mark Thomas, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the hospital where she works, and the number is his.”
Clay tapped a pencil against his head as he thought. “Hawk, you and Sandstorm go speak to the doctor. Find out if he has an alibi for last night.”
The two men turned and left, and Lyric stood watching from the corner, his arms crossed over his chest, waiting. “Do we have any other cases that are similar to this? It feels too clean, like this isn’t his first kill.”
Omega clicked around some more and the screen brought up a map linking three areas. “No murders of women that pinged, but these three are all murders involving first responders or emergency services personnel.”
“Show me.”
Four images appeared on the large screen in front of them, and Lyric moved closer.
“Two men, one was a cop, the other a firefighter, and two women. One was an EMT and our victim, Serena, was a nurse. In all four cases, their work badges or ID were missing. This guy even had his department badge cut from the cloth of his jacket.”
“So, we have a killer targeting first responders and taking souvenirs?”
“I need to tie these together more and ensure it’s the same killer, but yes, my gut is telling me we do.”
Clay knew the spotlight would be on him, but now it would shine brighter than ever. A killer targeting the men and women who put themselves on the line to help others would be a media storm. “Lyric, look into these cases and speak to the detectives who investigated them. Find out everything you can. I need to speak to the Assistant Director and give him a heads up.”
“Sure did pick a doozie for our first case, Condor.”
“Looks like it.”
