He watched Gail walk away with her new man, Toby, and turned to catch Taamira watching him. He crooked his finger at her, and she grinned as she walked towards him.
“You called?” she said with a smile.
“I missed my wife.”
“I love hearing you say that.”
“Me too. Want to dance or get some air?”
“Air, please.”
He slid his arm around her waist and walked with her to the French doors of the 18th-century castle where they were holding the reception, the service having been at the small church on the grounds, and away from the prying eyes of the press, who had taken Taamira into their hearts.
They walked to the edge of the patio, and he took her in his arms, swaying gently as the evening light faded.
“This has been the happiest day of my life,” Liam said as he twirled her to the music playing softly in the background.
“Mine, too. But I know each and every day with you gets better and better. So, you know what you said about starting a family?” Taamira said as he twirled her again before bringing her back to his body.
“Yes.”
“How would you feel about starting it eight months from today?”
Liam went stock still as his eyes pricked with emotion. His hand went to her belly as he dropped his gaze. “Are you seriously saying what I think you are?”
Taamira nodded, tears in her own eyes. “Yes, I took the test this morning.”
“Every time I think my life can’t get better you give me more beauty to be grateful for.”
Her hands curled in the hair at his neck as she raised up her lips hovering inches from his. “I want to spend my life making you happy that you saved you me.”
“Treacle, you have that wrong, you saved me.”
“I guess we saved each other then.”
“I guess we did.”
That was the story he would tell his children as they grew older, how the cockney saved the princess, and the princess saved him right back.
