“Anytime, Pyro.”
“I’m never gonna live that down am I?”
“You did blow a fucking helo out of the sky, almost landing it on my building,” Zack exclaimed with a sigh.
“It was for the greater good.”
“My ass. You just wanted to show off your toys.”
Liam laughed, they both knew the truth, and that was he had done what he had to save a lot of lives.
“You got me, Zack.”
Zack laughed and hung up, and Liam’s shoulders sagged. That was one problem solved. Hopefully, tomorrow they could iron out the rest as best they could. But everyone knew it was almost impossible to predict every given scenario, but he was going to do his damndest.
He was about to call Taamira when he got a text from Blake. It showed Taamira with Callie, Pax, and Evelyn sitting in his living room with glasses of something fizzy. The caption read, meeting the natives.
He shook his head and smiled. He was pleased that the girls were dragging Taamira into their little group. She hadn’t had a lot of girlfriends she could trust from what he could make out. If there was one thing he knew, those three women would be loyal, and God help anyone who hurt someone they considered part of their girl squad.
As he climbed in the shower, deciding he would call Taamira later, he grinned happily. She was not only safe from physical harm, but with new friends and people who cared for her as a person around her, Taamira was safe, and that was all that mattered to him.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
TAAMIRA HATED TO ADMIT IT, BUT SHE WAS MISSING LIAM ALREADY. HE’ D ONLY LEFT THAT MORNING, and she already wanted to call him. When the first text came through, she couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face. It had only been a meme from a movie, but as it was one they’d watched the other night, it had her smiling with delight.
She had taken full responsibility for feeding Digby when she heard Liam ask Mitch who had shown up with Blake earlier. Liam had chuckled and snagged her around the back of her neck, pulling her close for a sweet kiss that had her toes curling in her boots.
“You want to take care of my donkey then have it, treacle. You remember how much he has?”
Taamira nodded eagerly knowing she must seem silly to them. “Yes.”
“Suits me, that mule hates me anyway.” Mitch shrugged as he went inside the house behind Blake, who had just informed them Pax would be by later.
Taamira was uncharacteristically nervous at the thought of meeting Pax, and she found herself biting her lip.
Liam had sensed her anxiety, turned her, so she was facing him but still within the circle of his arms. “Talk to me.”
“It’s silly.” Taamira dropped her eyes in embarrassment.
She had met Kings and Queens, super stars, and billionaires yet meeting a female friend of the man who was quickly becoming everything to her frightened her to death.
Liam lifted her chin with his finger, so she was looking him in the eye. “Nothing that makes you look like that is silly.”
His words made her go gooey inside. “Liam,” she said softly.
“I mean it. Now tell me,” he demanded with firmness.
“Fine, I’m worried about meeting Pax.”
His hard face softened. “Pax is the sweetest person. She may come across full of confidence, but she has her own story to tell. Trust me, Princess, I wouldn’t put you in this position if I thought for one second you’d end up hurt in any way. But if you want me to tell Blake she should stay home, I will.”
Taamira shook her head, heartened by his words. “No, I want to meet her. I’m just not used to being around women who don’t have an agenda.”
Liam laughed and raised an eyebrow. “Oh, she has an agenda.”
Taamira stiffened. “She does?”
“Oh, yeah, to get as much information out of you as she can about us. These women are nosey mares.”
