He had come to love Mimi as much as everyone else had. She was like a mum to them all, and he realised he missed that. “Fine, but I want extra pudding to make up for it,” he said with a cheeky smile that generally got him his way.

“Eat up,” she said with a nod and a wink.

Once he had finished his lunch and everyone was starting to disperse into smaller groups, he looked at Drew and Liam. Standing, he went to kiss Mimi and thank David, Reg, and Colin for such an excellent dinner and then slipped into Zack’s office.

He wasn’t surprised to see his boss sat at his desk waiting for him.

“Start talking, Will,” Zack said without preamble.

Will moved to his laptop to check the scan he was running and saw it was complete. He could now download the programme he needed to hack the satellites in Colombia. “Nothing to say,” he replied vaguely.

Zack stood abruptly. “Don’t give me that shit. I’m not some fucking moron you can fuck with!” he barked.

“Fine, I got a possible location on Aubrey, and I’m going after her,” he said ready for a fight, knowing how busy they were after landing a contract with the government to overhaul the security at significant terror target sites.

“Fine, make sure Lucy is up to speed and make sure you keep Drew out of trouble. He’s your responsibility.”

“How did you…” he started but stopped when Zack raised an eyebrow. “Okay, thanks,” he said instead.

“Have you told Jack?”

Will felt his hackles rise at the question. “No and I won’t. He had his chance to help me, and he didn’t want to know, so now he doesn’t get the chance to ride in like a hero.”

“Come on, Will, it isn’t like that, and you know it.”

“Maybe, but all I know is I needed his help, and he said no, so I won’t ask again. I’ll do what I have to do on my own.”

“And Liam?”

“We both know who pays Liam’s wages and it isn’t Jack,” Will said hotly.

Zack nodded in understanding. “Fine, stay in touch and don’t get killed.” He walked to the door and stopped before turning. “Oh, and another thing, we never had this conversation,” he said firmly and then left.

Collecting everything he would need, Will threw his bag on his back and moved to the back door where Liam and Drew were waiting for him.

“Well, me old mucker, what’s the plan?”

“I don’t really have a plan, except steal a plane from Eidolon and get to Colombia,” Will responded as they walked to Drew’s SUV.

“Good job I’m here then ain’t it,” Liam said with a cocky grin.

“Well, it isn’t for your looks or dazzling company,” laughed Drew as he started the vehicle.

Liam shot Drew the finger. “Fuck you. Women love me and if Jack fucks up my pretty face for helping you steal his toys, you’re gonna owe me so big,” he shot at Will as Drew laughed and pulled onto the road for the ten-minute drive to Eidolon.

“Fine, if my scary assed brother rearranges your face, I’ll hire you to keep me safe from Mimi and her healthy diet,” he said with cringe at the thought of her hiding his sweet stash.

“You should be fucking thanking her. That shit is bad for you,” Drew flexed a muscle at Will, “if you want to have guns like this instead of those weedy things.” He gestured to Will’s arms, which while smaller than Drew’s, were twice the size they were a few months ago.

“Yeah, yeah whatever, just drive douchebag.” Will pointed at the road.

“Let’s go get us some toys to play with,” Liam said as Will looked out of the window and wondered if the woman he was falling in love with was safe and if she would appreciate his help or just tell him to fuck off like last time. The thought of either made him smile, he liked a snarky woman with spirit.

Chapter 2

As he strapped his seatbelt for take-off, Will thought about what had just happened and couldn’t believe how easy it had been. They had literally walked into the Eidolon compound using Liam’s codes, through the armoury where they had picked up some very nice and costly hardware along with some ‘toys’ that Liam assured him they would need, then loaded up the plane.

He knew the system would alert Jack that Liam had been inside the armoury and the locked warehouse where the vehicles were kept. He had set up the fool-proof system, so he knew how good it was. He could have circumvented the security, but something stopped him. Deep inside himself, he wondered if he wasn’t pushing things with his brother. Jack finding out the secret Will kept would certainly bring things to a head, more than likely a bloody one.
