“Why I wanted your attention?” I asked to clarify. After her nod, I went on casually, “Because I once knew you. Because once, you were everything to me. And now, even though technically I don’t know you, I want to. And I missed you.”

With my every word, her body grew softer, and her eyes lost their frightened look until I said my last words. “And I like you.”

“Um, I need you to step back,” she swallowed, her voice turning sharp.

“Have dinner with me.” My gaze kept wandering down to her lips. She licked them quickly, as if out of reflex. And I started to lose control. I wanted her, but I had to be patient.

I briefly wondered if she felt this same pull towards me, but was simply a better actress.

“I-I don’t think that's a smart idea,” she stuttered. Looking back up, I could see that her pupils were dilated, and her breath came out in short, forceful pants.

Yeah, she was attracted to me.

She wanted this as much as I did. She only had better control over herself.

“I think it’s an excellent idea, Lola,” I leaned a little bit more, bringing our mouths closer together.

Lola made a tiny keening sound, like this was both an exquisite pleasure, just a breath away from the kiss we both wanted, and the most horrendous torture possible. Her pink tongue came out and traced the bottom lip slowly.

Yes, fuck yes, she wanted me.

I felt like I was on top of the world.

I smiled a cocky smile, and looked back up, “Come to dinner with me, or just spend time with me. Get to know me again. Maybe you'll find out you like me even better now.”

The innuendo was barely hidden in my words, and Lola didn’t miss it. “It can’t happen.”

“What can’t happen, beautiful Lola?” I breathed, playing the game of pushing and pulling. It was the best aphrodisiac in the world.

“Nothing can happen between us,” she tried to say sternly, but her shaking body gave her away.

She was losing the battle that raged within her.

“Sure it can, you just have to let it.”

“I won’t.” It was like she was sobering up. “I can’t.”

“Just give me a few hours of your time,” I sighed and backed up. As much as it was fun bringing her to the edge like this, of pulling out every bit of her reactions in the daylight, I didn’t want to push too hard.

I meant what I said, I really did want us to talk, and reconnect, even if just friends.

The part of the truth where she was mine, I’ll just have to inform her of later, when she was more comfortable with me.

“I’ll think about it,” and with that, she scurried off, leaving me to watch her walk away.

It seemed that that was all she did, but soon, if she didn’t stop doing it, I’ll chase after her. No matter how far she ran.

I was never letting her go again.

Chapter Five

Lola

I clicked Save on the file and shut my laptop.

I was exhausted. But I was here for work, not to look around mindlessly, hoping to get a glimpse of a certain driver.

My focus was non-existent since he had cornered me and demanded to give him a chance to get to know me again.
